DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa State University expects about 75,000 football fans to converge on the campus for today’s (Saturday’)s matchup between the Cyclones and the Iowa Hawkeyes. University officials have a little advice for fans. It’s much easier to get into Jack Trice Stadium with without large bags or purses.

Other things not to bring — a pet, a cooler, and obviously, a weapon. Also not allowed — alcohol, artificial noisemakers, backpacks and fanny packs, stadium seats or coolers. And don’t smoke. The gates open at 3:30 p.m. General parking lots will begin taking cars at 11 a.m.

Profanity, racial or sexist comments or other intimidating actions directed at other fans, the teams or the officials may lead to an arrest. Anyone driving from Iowa City could encounter construction on Interstate 80 near Altoona.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) – Iowa has won at Iowa State just once since 2003 – even though the Hawkeyes have been favored each time. Iowa is the favorite again in Saturday’s in-state showdown after Iowa State (0-1) played poorly in its season-opening loss to Northern Iowa. Iowa (1-1) lost to Northern Illinois and beat Missouri State of the Championship Subdivision.

If the last decade is any indication, the game could end up being another entertaining but mistake-filled spectacle between two rivals desperate for a win before conference play begins. Listen to the game on AM-1220 and FM 101.1 KJAN Saturday, beginning with pre-game coverage at 3-p.m. , and the kick-off at 5. ST. LOUIS (AP) — Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina missed his second consecutive game against the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday night because of an illness in the family. Molina’s mother Gladys is recuperating from an unspecified surgery performed Wednesday. Molina and his brother, assistant hitting coach Bengie Molina, were not at Busch Stadium the last two nights, and St. Louis manager Mike Matheny would not say when the catcher was expected back.

Tony Cruz replaced Molina in the starting lineup for the second game in a row. Molina is hitting .318 with 11 homers and 65 RBIs in 120 games.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Tyler Thornburg threw six solid innings and Sean Halton homered to lead the Milwaukee Brewers over St. Louis 5-3 on Thursday night, snapping the Cardinals’ five-game winning streak. St. Louis fell into a tie with Pittsburgh for the top spot in the NL Central. Both teams are 85-61 with 16 games remaining. The idle Cincinnati Reds are 2½ back.

Milwaukee broke a three-game losing streak against St. Louis and beat the Cardinals for only the fourth time in 16 meetings this season. The Cardinals are 5-1 on their nine-game homestand. Thornburg, making his eighth career start, gave up two runs and three hits. He spent most of the season with Triple-A Nashville, going 0-9 with a 5.79 ERA in 15 starts.
