Northern Iowa sweeps past Loyola of Chicago 80-58

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — Nate Buss came off the bench to lead Northern Iowa with 18 points and the Panthers eased into an 80-58 victory over Loyola of Chicago on Wednesday night. Buss made four 3-pointers and Marvin Singleton and Matt Bohannon added 12 points each as the Panthers combined to shoot 58.7 percent from the floor. Bohannon also added four 3’s and Max Martino finished with three.

Loyola (9-16, 4-9 Missouri Valley Conference) led by six midway through the first half, but back-to-back 3’s by Buss and Bohannon and two jumpers from Singleton put Northern Iowa ahead. The Panthers (12-13, 6-7) held a seven-point lead at the break, and stretched it to 20 points 7 minutes into the second half.

Devon Turk came off the bench to lead the Ramblers with 10 points and three 3-pointers, and Milton Doyle added seven assists. Loyola shot 39.6 percent from the floor.

ISU’s Christofferson Named To Naismith Trophy Midseason List

ATLANTA – Iowa State women’s basketball senior Hallie Christofferson has been named to the Naismith Trophy midseason list, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today.

Christofferson is one of 30 collegiate women’s basketball players named to the prestigious Naismith Trophy list. The senior is averaging 18.7 points per contest, which ranks second in the Big 12, and 7.4 rebounds.

Christofferson recently became just the eighth player in Cyclone history to reach 1,500 career points and sits eighth in Iowa State history with 1,568 points. Christofferson is a two-time Academic All- Big 12 honoree and was also named an ISU Scholar Athlete last season.

Christofferson has been named to a slew of awards including, the John Wooden Award midseason list, the Wade Trophy Midseason list, a semi-finalist for the Wooden Citizenship Cup award and a Senior CLASS Award finalist.

ISU’s Christofferson Named Senior CLASS Award Finalist

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State senior forward Hallie Christofferson has been named one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

The finalists were chosen from the original list of 30 by a media committee. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner. Fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through March 24. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches’ votes to determine the winner.

Iowa State is the only school to have a finalist in each of the last two seasons, as Chelsea Poppens represented the Cyclones as a finalist last season.

The women’s winner will be announced during the NCAA Women’s Final Four.
