AMES, Iowa (AP) — Former Iowa State receiver P.J. Harris has been arrested and charged with strangling his girlfriend. Harris was booked on an aggravated domestic assault/strangulation charge. He was being held in a Story County jail without bond.

Ames Police spokesman Jason Tuttle says Harris’ girlfriend told officers Harris pushed her against a wall, threw her on a bed and began to strangle her Thursday. Tuttle says officers observed scratches on the woman. Harris caught nine passes for 55 yards last season. Iowa State spokesman Mike Green says Harris was kicked off the team on Jan. 13 for violating team rules.

Atlantic Soccer Association Informational Meeting on January 28th

Sports

January 22nd, 2015 by Jim Field

The Atlantic Soccer Association will be having an Information/Registration meeting January 28th at the high school commons from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Team space may be limited pending numbers and availability of coaches.  There is also a U 10 team that has been formed and is still looking for a few players to fill out their team. If we have more interest in U10 we may be able to form another team.

The Atlantic Soccer Association was formed in December 2014. This is a non-profit group based in Atlantic and is focused on developing spring soccer for area youths.

It is the mission of the Atlantic Soccer Association to advance the development of local youth through the sport of soccer. We are committed to providing our participants with a fun, high quality soccer experience. The ASA’s goal is to encourage sportsmanship, love of the game, and development of players, coaches, and volunteers.

We would like to invite your player to be a part of the fun! We are now forming the 14 and 12 and under age teams to play in a spring league tentatively running from March into May. Indoor practices may start as early as February.

Our tentative game dates are as followed: 3/29, 4/11, 4/18, 4/25,(away game) 5/2 and maybe 5/9 Make Up date. We may add a few tournaments to this schedule as teams develop their individual tournament.

Coaches will develop their own practice schedules for each team.  Currently we do have quality coaches lined up to assist each team.  However, we will need more to volunteer. Our goal is to have 3 coaches per team. If you have an interest in learning to coach soccer please indicate that on the registration form attached.

The ASA Board welcomes parent volunteers! If you have fundraising experience or would like to be more involved, please contact any of the board members below:
