Sports

January 31st, 2015 by admin

AMES, Iowa (AP) – Georges Niang scored 23 points, floor leader Monte Morris added 16 and No. 15 Iowa State pulled away in the second half to beat TCU 83-66 on Saturday.

Iowa State (16-4, 6-2 Big 12) ran its homecourt winning streak to 19 with its first double-digit win in conference play. The Cyclones’ previous five league victories had been decided by a total of 18 points.

Bryce Dejean-Jones scored 16 points and Dustin Hogue had 12 for the Cyclones, who won their second straight after a humbling loss at Texas Tech a week ago. TCU (14-7, 1-7) stayed close for a half, causing some edginess among the Cyclone faithful, but Iowa State finally took control with a pair of big runs in the second half.

Trey Zeigler led TCU with 14 points and Chris Washburn scored 11.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Frank Kaminsky had 24 points and nine rebounds to lead No. 5 Wisconsin to a 74-63 win over Iowa on Saturday. Nigel Hayes scored 14 points and Sam Dekker and Josh Gasser each added 11 for the Badgers (18-2, 6-1 Big Ten). Wisconsin had 21 second chance points to win its fifth straight against the Hawkeyes (13-8, 4-4).

Wisconsin pulled away midway through the second half when Iowa went nearly seven minutes without a field goal. Gabriel Olaseni added 12 points for Iowa.

No. 12 Wichita St, No. 18 Northern Iowa set for MVC showdown

Sports

January 31st, 2015 by Ric Hanson

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Wichita State’s unbeaten romp through the Missouri Valley Conference has brought both notoriety and scrutiny to the league. Northern Iowa is getting its chance to show that the Valley is about more than just the Shockers.

The 18th-ranked Panthers (19-2, 8-1 MVC) host Number 12 Wichita State (19-2, 9-0) on Saturday in one of the most high-profile games in league history. It’s the first Valley game between ranked opponents since 1982 — and biggest threat yet to Wichita’s 27-game winning streak in the league.
