The Associated Press Iowa Boys Basketball Prep Poll

The Top Ten teams in the Associated Press Iowa high school basketball poll with first-place votes in parentheses and won-loss record, total points and position last week at right:

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa point guard Trey Dickerson is leaving the program after less than a year in Iowa City. The Hawkeyes announced Monday that Dickerson has been granted a release from his scholarship. Dickerson, a sophomore, will finish out the year academically before transferring to a new school.

Dickerson, a junior college transfer, never quite fit in with the Hawkeyes. He struggled to find playing time behind juniors Mike Gesell and Anthony Clemmons and wound up playing just 15 games at Iowa, averaging 2.7 points. Dickerson’s departure will free up an extra scholarship that Iowa could possibly use in the increasingly important spring signing season.

The Atlantic High/Middle School Archery Club participated in the Central Decatur Archery Club Shoot on Thursday Feb 19th.

Congrats to all of the medalist but more important the team on their hard work and dedication to the sport and their school way to represent Atlantic CSD.

For the archery season we have 4 archery members who have qualified for state- Heather Freund, Luke Frisbee , Taylor Kirchner, and Jordan Zarbano.  The entire team did have a qualifying score however it was late in the season and all shooting spots have been taken. The Archery Team did have a qualifying national shoot during this contest and now may attend the National Shoot in Kentucky. We are hoping Saturdays score will allow us a chance to register sooner.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska coach Tim Miles is so steamed about his team’s 28-point loss to Iowa that he’s locking his players out of their locker room. The Cornhuskers’ 74-46 loss Sunday was their fifth straight and seventh in eight games. They’re 13-14 overall and 5-8 and in 10th place in Big Ten after finishing fourth and making it to the NCAA tournament last year. Miles also said players would not speak to the media until further notice, adding, “If there’s anyone who’s going to represent us right now, it’s me.”

Nebraska’s $19 million training facility opened in 2011 and features a deluxe locker room with heated towel racks and I-pod plug-ins in the showers. Asked where the players will shower after practices, Miles said, “Good luck. They’re creative young people.”

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Aaron White had 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Iowa rode a 21-2 run to end the first half to a 74-46 victory over Nebraska on Sunday. Peter Jok scored 14 points and Jarrod Uthoff had 11 points and four blocked shots for the Hawkeyes (17-10, 8-6 Big Ten), who swept the season series against Nebraska (13-14, 5-10) and sent the Huskers to their fifth straight loss and seventh in eight games.

Iowa, which shot 50 percent and made 10 3-pointers, was the first Nebraska opponent in 38 games to make at least half its shots from the floor. Nebraska got 16 points from Terran Petteway and 10 from Walter Pitchford. The Huskers’ 32.7-percent shooting matched their season low, and they were just 2 of 18 on 3s.

Shavon Shields, who had 25 points in the first meeting with the Hawks, was held to three points on 1-of-6 shooting.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Gary Ricks Jr. sank six 3-pointers and finished with 20 points to help propel Drake to a 78-43 win over Missouri State on Sunday. Reed Timmer added 17 points while pulling down seven rebounds, Jacob Enevold Jensen and Chris Caird added 10 points apiece as Drake (9-19, 6-10 Missouri Valley Conference) shot 51.8 percent from the floor, including 13 of 21 from 3-point range, to snap a two-game skid.

The Bulldogs broke it open with a 19-2 run in the first half that included 3-pointers from Timmer and Caird and the margin never fell below double figures the rest of the way. Leading 35-14 at the break, Drake continued to pull away in the second half. Chris Kendrix scored 13 points and Camyn Boone had 12 and 10 rebounds for Missouri State (10-18, 4-12), which was held to 28.1 percent shooting, including just 3 of 19 from long range.
