KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs reported for the start of their offseason program on Monday. Well, most of them did. The most notable absence was All-Pro linebacker Justin Houston, who was given the franchise tag after a record-setting sack season. Houston still has not signed his tender as the Chiefs and his representatives try to reach an agreement on a long-term deal.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid said he was not surprised that Houston skipped the voluntary workout, and that he understands the business side of the equation. But Reid also sounded certain that the two sides would eventually come to an agreement.
Houston set a Chiefs record with 22 sacks last season.

The Atlantic Archery Club and Atlantic Archery Club Foundation have been working very hard to achieve their goal of sending a team to the National Archery Tournament. This goal has been achieved and the team will be going to Nationals on May 6th, 7th, 8th.

Our Club has had a tremendous amount of support from the Atlantic Booster club. The booster club was instrumental in helping gather funds to start archery in the school. In October of 2013 the booster club donated $1200 matching funds received from a DNR grant to buy equipment. In March 2015 the booster club gave another $1000 to support the group in their quest to nationals.
On April 11th the Archery Club Foundation with the Pheasants Forever Cass County Chapter conducted a bow raffle. Deter Motor Company purchased the bow to be raffled with all proceeds going to support the Atlantic Archery Club through the Atlantic Archery Club Foundation. Choice Printing along with the BTW and Atlantic Nursing and Rehab provided the raffle tickets. The raffle grossed over $7300 for the club. The winner of the bow was Roni Hook from Griswold.
On April 14th the Atlantic Archery Club Foundation received a grant of $3000 from the Atlantic Rotary Club for equipment. This donation to date is the single largest donation the club has received. The Archery Club Foundation has also received $300 donations from the Atlantic Kiwanis, Hy Vee, and Camblin Mechanical, Don Sonntag / Sonntag Development.
We have also had contributions to date from the following- Mainlander Law Firm, J & B Amusement, Alan & Brenda Zellmer, Atlantic Pest Control, Roland Funeral Service, Fridley Theaters, First Whitney Bank & Trust and Hansen Graphix.
The Archery Club Foundation is made up of parents of Atlantic Archery Club members who are helping raise funds to support the clubs effort to provide a quality program.
The Archery Club has been assisted by two coaches who have went above and beyond the call of duty for the kids. The Archery Club would like to thank Dent Petty and Clint Roland for helping make the archery club what it is.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny says outfielder Randal Grichuk, put on the 15-day disabled list with a lower back strain, will have to change his workout routine to avoid further problems. Grichuk, who was batting .200 with a homer and two RBIs in 10 at-bats, was injured lifting weights and was placed on the DL retroactive to Friday. Infielder Dean Anna, a left-handed hitter, was recalled from Triple-A Memphis in time for Sunday night’s game against the Reds.
Matheny said Grichuk altered the plan after hurting the back in spring training and now will have to do things “probably radically different.” The 28-year-old Anna was batting .393 with two doubles and two RBIs in seven games as the leadoff man in the minors. He appeared in 12 games with the Yankees last season and could be used at second base, shortstop and third base.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Adam Wainwright outpitched Mike Leake, and Kolten Wong had a tiebreaking sacrifice in the eighth inning as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Cincinnati Reds 2-1 Sunday night to finish a three-game sweep. Matt Carpenter hit his fifth career leadoff homer and singled for his eighth multi-hit effort this season as the Cardinals won their fifth straight. Jordan Walden worked around a leadoff hit by Brennan Boesch in the ninth to earn his first save and end the game in 2 hours, 2 minutes.
Wainwright (2-1) gave up one run and seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks, improving to 3-0 against the Reds the last two seasons. Leake (0-1) gave up both runs and four hits in eight innings for the Reds, who have totaled four runs during a four-game losing streak. Brandon Phillips had two hits and an RBI and Joey Votto singled in his first two trips.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – A 2-year-old dog from Des Moines named Tank won the Beautiful Bulldog contest at Drake University. The 36th annual tongue-in-cheek beauty pageant, which featured 50 dogs Sunday, is the kickoff event for the Drake Relays track meet.
Pageant organizers narrowed a pool of over 100 hopeful pups by a lottery held last month. Judges weren’t looking for beauty though. They wanted to see the slobber, drool and bulging bloodshot eyes synonymous with English bulldogs. They got all that and more from Tank, a dog owner Duane Smith said he found by searching on Craigslist a year ago.
Officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources report a man from Guthrie Center was injured while turkey hunting Saturday morning in rural Guthrie County. Authorities say 51-year old Richard Groom suffered a wound to his upper torso after being hit by shot fired from another hunter he was hunting with approximately 10 miles west of Panora. The incident happened at around 7:30 a.m., Saturday.
Groom was airlifted to Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. The incident is still under investigation by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
UNDATED (AP) — The Golden State Warriors opened their NBA playoff schedule by carrying a 25-point lead into the fourth quarter before holding off New Orleans 106-99. Stephen (STEH’-fehn) Curry scored 34 points and Klay Thompson chipped in 21 to help the Warriors withstand Anthony Davis’ game-high 35 points for the Pelicans. Also in the Western Conference playoffs, James Harden delivered 24 points and Corey Brewer scored 13 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter of Houston’s 118-108 victory against Dallas.
UNDATED (AP) — The Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards have won their opening games in the NBA’s Eastern Conference quarterfinals. Jimmy Butler poured in 25 points and Derrick Rose added 23 and seven assists as the Bulls downed Milwaukee 103-91. Paul Pierce scored five of his 20 points in overtime to lead the Wizards’ 93-86 win at Toronto.
UNDATED (AP) — The Pittsburgh Penguins and Tampa Bay Lightning have squared their respective Stanley Cup first-round series at a game apiece. Sidney Crosby scored twice in a three-goal second period that pushed the Pens past the Rangers 4-3 in New York. Tyler Johnson also had a two-goal game and Ben Bishop earned his first playoff win by turning back 23 shots in the Lightning’s 5-1 rout of the Red Wings.
UNDATED (AP) — St. Louis and Minnesota are knotted at a game apiece in their Stanley Cup first-round series after Vladimir Tarasenko registered his first career hat trick in the Blues’ 4-1 triumph over the Wild. Tarasenko scored twice in a 4:43 span of the first period and completed his hat trick with an empty-netter. And Jakob Silfverberg scored with just 21 seconds remaining to give Anaheim a 2-1 victory and a two-games-to-none lead over Winnipeg.
CHICAGO (AP) — Kris Bryant collected his first two major league hits and reached base five times in the Chicago Cubs’ 7-6, 11-inning win over San Diego. Bryant’s first hit was an RBI single, and he also had an infield single in the 11th before Starlin Castro won it with a single. Bryant was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in his big league debut on Friday.
