KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs placed four players on waivers Tuesday, including former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor, who had been signed in the offseason and was trying to earn a backup job. The Chiefs did not choose a quarterback in last week’s draft, but they already have Alex Smith, Chase Daniel, Tyler Bray and Aaron Murray on the roster. They are also expected to add a couple of undrafted quarterbacks as free agents in the coming days.

Pryor was 3-7 as a starter over three seasons in Oakland. He has not played since 2013. The Chiefs also waived linebacker JoJo Dickson, wide receiver Corbin Louks and long snapper Jorgen Hus on Tuesday.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals recalled left-hander Tyler Lyons from Triple-A Memphis to start Tuesday night against the Chicago Cubs and optioned rookie right-hander Sam Tuivailala to Memphis. The 27-year-old Lyons was 2-1 with a 2.91 ERA in four starts for Memphis with 26 strikeouts in 21 1-3 innings. He threw eight shutout innings against Rock Round his last start on April 28.

Lyons is 2-8 with a 4.62 ERA in 23 career major league appearances, including 12 starts. He worked 4 2-3 innings scoreless innings in relief with a career-high eight strikeouts in the first game of a double-header against the Cubs on Aug. 30, 2014.

Tuivailala appeared in one game with St. Louis, allowing one run in two innings Sunday against the Pirates.

Cards’ Garcia throws 70 pitches, could begin rehab Sunday

Sports

ST. LOUIS (AP) — St. Louis Cardinals left-hander Jaime Garcia threw 70 pitches during an extended spring training outing and could begin a rehab assignment Sunday. Garcia is trying to come back after a setback in his rehab from thoracic outlet surgery in spring training. General manager John Mozeliak said Garcia told him he felt a lot stronger and was “extremely optimistic,” but he wanted to see how Garcia felt today (Wednesday).

Garcia and fellow lefty Marco Gonzales are potential options to fill the rotation spot of ace Adam Wainwright, out for the season with a torn left Achilles. Gonzales is coming back from an early season shoulder injury and is set to pitch Saturday for Triple-A Memphis. Mozeliak said Gonzales would likely be on a pitch count.

Anthony Rizzo had three hits and a walk but grounded out with the bases loaded against Miguel Socolovich to end the eighth. Vikings agree to deals with 10 undrafted rookies including ISU’s Farniok

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings have agreed to terms with contracts with 10 undrafted rookies, including Virginia safety Anthony Harris. The Vikings announced the deals Tuesday. Harris was widely pegged as a mid-to-late-round pick, but concerns about a shoulder injury likely contributed to his fall off the board. Harris ran a 4.56-second 40-yard dash at the NFL scouting combine, tied for seventh fastest at his position. He had 11 interceptions at Virginia.

Others who agreed to contracts were Tennessee cornerback Justin Coleman, Notre Dame wide receiver DaVaris Daniels, Iowa State center Tom Farniok, Old Dominion quarterback Taylor Heinicke, BYU wide receiver Jordan Leslie, Pittsburg State wide receiver Gavin Lutman, Boise State fullback Blake Renaud, Saginaw Valley State guard Jesse Somsel and Boston College guard Bobby Vardaro.
