Chiefs chairman expects NFL team to play in LA next season

Sports

January 4th, 2016 by Ric Hanson

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs owner Clark Hunt expects at least one NFL franchise to be playing in Los Angeles next season, though he declined to speculate Sunday whether the Raiders, Chargers or Rams are the leading candidate. The three are expected to file for relocation Monday, the day after the regular season ends.

Hunt is part of a six-man committee made up of league owners that will meet to discuss relocation. The rest of the league’s owners will meet to review their findings the following week, and could decide whether one or two teams will move to Los Angeles for the 2016 season.

The nation’s second-largest market hasn’t had an NFL team since the Raiders and Rams left after the 1994 season. The Chargers have played in San Diego for 55 seasons.

Baylor, Mississippi State, Maryland, Stanford and Kentucky round out the first 10.

Seton Hall re-entered the poll at No. 25 while Miami fell out. The Pirates host No. 24 DePaul on Tuesday.

Iowa received 20 votes in this weeks poll and Iowa State received 3 votes.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Alex Smith threw two touchdown passes, Kansas City sacked Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr six times, and the Chiefs held on for a 23-17 victory Sunday to give them a franchise-best 10 straight wins entering the postseason.

*The Chiefs will travel to NRG Stadium to take on the Houston Texans in the Wild Card round of the NFL Playoffs this Saturday at 3:35 p.m. CT. The Texans won the AFC South division with a 9-7 record and the Chiefs clinched the AFC’s first Wild Card spot at 11-5.

Saturday will mark the second meeting between the Chiefs and the Texans, who met in a Week 1 game the Chiefs won, 27-20. Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith had 243 yards passing and 3 touchdowns in the victory.

The Chiefs (11-5) are somehow in the dance after a 1-5 start. The Raiders (7-9), who accounted for two of those victories, had the ball with 1:34 left. But Carr was sacked one last time, and the clock expired before they came close to a go-ahead touchdown.
