The lead in the American Rivers Conference race will be on the line in Cedar Rapids on Saturday when 13th ranked Wartburg visits number-21 Coe. The Wartburg defense has scored a touchdown in each of the last four games.
That’s Wartburg coach Chris Winter who says the Kohawks are outstanding on both sides of the ball.
Coe averages just over 236 yards of rushing per game and gives up just under 40.
Coe is 7-0 overall while Wartburg is 5-1.
Iowa linebacker Nick Jackson says experience will help the Hawkeyes move on after a disappointing loss at Michigan State. The Hawkeyes take a 4-3 record into Saturday’s game against Northwestern.
Jackson believes the Hawkeyes will bounce back with a good effort.
The third loss means many of Iowa’s preseason goals are unreachable but Jackson says there is still plenty to play for.
This game will match an underachieving Iowa defense against Northwestern’s worst in the Big Ten offense. Hawkeye defensive end Deontae Craig.
Iowa receiver Jacob Gill and backup quarterback Brendan Sullivan both played at Northwestern last season. Gill says he has kept in touch with some of his former teammates.
Gill says he and Sullivan are trying to help offensive coordinator Tim Lester prepare for the game.
The ACGC Chargers Volleyball team was eliminated from the 2A region 8 playoffs by the Pleasantville Trojans after dropping their quarterfinal match 3-2. It was a close and intense match with each team neck and neck with tons of momentum swings. Unfortunately for ACGC, it was the Trojans the grabbed momentum late.
Set one was not the cleanest of matches for the Chargers. Along with a few services errors they suffered from some unforced errors. This coupled with the play of the Trojans allowed Pleasantville to grab control of the lead and hold on to take set one 25-18.
In set two the Chargers found an emphatic response. Holding a 9-7 lead ACGC grabbed the momentum and went on a 6-0 run. After surrender just 2 points, the Chargers led by Shay Lemke and Stella Largent, would go on 10-0 run to win set two 25-10.
Set three was characterized by long runs for both teams. Each squad had runs of five or more and were diving all over the floor to keep balls alive. However late in the set things tightened up as ACGC were unable to pull away. Finally, on their third set point were able to get it done to win the set 27-25.
Everything seemed like it was on the Chargers side with a chance to close out the match and move on. However, set four would prove to be the turning point. ACGC jumped out to an early lead, one they seemed destined to hold on too. However, down 17-12 Pleasantville would go on numerous runs to come all the way back and swipe set four 25-21. With the momentum flipped Pleasantville went to work establishing an early lead in set five, and it would be one they would not relinquish winning the final set 15-10.

Pleasantville will travel to Pella Christian to take on the Eagles in the semi-final on Monday.

The 7-1 GTRA Titans football program is preparing for a competitive matchup against the 6-2 CAM Cougars this Friday night. The Titans last game a week ago turned into a 66-20 rout of the North Iowa Bison.
44-point victories are a good reminder for GTRA head coach Todd Hough of how much improvement his team has seen in the last year.
A large part of the Titans success is the equal distribution on offense. Starting quarterback Kasey Hough has been sharp in the pocket with a 73.8 completion percentage and over 23 touchdowns. Those 23 touchdowns have been distributed to seven different receivers.
Coach Hough has also liked the disruption his defensive has caused on opposing offensive lines. That has allowed linebackers Caleb Swedin and Landen Dietrich to cause havoc on offenses. Both linebackers combine for 74 tackles and six tackles for a loss.
Even with a tested defense, the Titans are not overlooking the running attack of CAM. The Cougars have rushed for over 1800 yards and average 6.4 yards a carry. A large part due to senior Makade Paulsen and his 985 rushing yards.
The bus ride for CAM will be over two hours on Friday and coach Hough thinks that will only play a small part in the game.
KJANTV will be broadcasting the game with the pregame slated to start at 6:30 p.m.
The 8-0 Lenox Tigers football team are focused and ready for their matchup this Friday against the 3-5 Exira-EHK Spartans in the first round of the 8-player playoffs. Lenox has seamlessly cut through the regular season with their closest game being a 28-point victory against a talented Bedford program.
Co-Head Coach Cole Bonde noted that the Tigers have seen large amounts of success from the leadership of their senior class with athletes like Gabe Funk and Jordan-Martin-England.
The Lenox offense has been nearly unstoppable this year thanks to the arm and decision making of Funk. Funk has thrown for 957 yards, 15 touchdowns, and only one interception on the year. Combined with the ground game of Martin-England’s 81 carries, 735 rushing yards, and 17 scores the duo have been hard to contain.
Defensively the Tigers have been led by Brody Brokaw with 37.5 tackles and 7.5 tackles for a loss. Laramie Stoaks is another defensive back who leads the team in interceptions with four and has minimized most teams passing attacks.
While studying film in preparation for Friday, coach Bonde noted that Exira-EHK tends to be creative with their schemes. That creativity lends the Spartans numerous opportunities to score and take momentum away.
One of Lenox’s main focuses heading into Friday is to quickly create explosive plays and get an early lead. This offensive mentality has kindled a Tiger offense that is scoring 55-points a game.
