February 19th, 2017 by Ric Hanson

CHICAGO (AP) – Lizzy Wendell rebounded from a sub-par outing to score 19 points with seven assists and lead No. 25 Drake to an 86-42 victory over Loyola-Chicago on Sunday that tied the school record of 16 consecutive wins.

Wendell had her nation-leading string of 102 games with at least 10 points end with a five-point effort in a victory over Indiana State on Friday. Against the Ramblers (2-23, 1-13 Missouri Valley), she was 7-of-14 shooting. Sammie Bachrodt added 17 points and Becca Hittner 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Katie Salmon scored 14 points and Kaitlyn Williams 10 for Loyola, which has lost 11 in a row. The victory for Drake (22-24, 15-0), which last Monday made its first appearance in the rankings since 2001, tied its 1996-97 team for the longest win streak. The game was tied once, at 3-3, but Drake quickly took off to lead by 15 after the first quarter and 34 at halftime. The lead reached a high of 45 late in the game.

February 19th, 2017 by Ric Hanson

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Naz Mitrou-Long had 15 of his 25 points in the first half and Iowa State beat TCU 84-71 Saturday to move into a three-way tie for second in the Big 12. Monte Morris added 18 with 11 assists for the Cyclones (17-9, 9-5 Big 12), who joined Baylor and West Virginia in second — three games behind Kansas.

Iowa State used a 16-1 run late in the first half to go ahead by 10 at the break. The Horned Frogs (17-9, 6-8) closed within three midway through the second half, but Morris — who notched his ninth career double-double — drilled a 3 to make it 68-53 with 6:32 left.

Deonte Burton scored 18 points for the Cyclones, winners of four out of their last five games. Alex Robinson had 16 with eight assists for TCU, which has lost three straight after winning three in a row.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Alize Johnson scored 23 points and grabbed a career-high 21 rebounds to lead Missouri State over Drake 76-73 on Saturday night to snap a four-game losing streak.

It was Johnson’s 15th double-double of the season. Dequon Miller added 16 points for Missouri State (16-13, 7-9 Missouri Valley). Graham Woodward and Reed Timmer scored 15 points apiece to lead Drake (7-21, 5-11).

Miller made a pair of free throws to give the Bears a 73-72 lead with 29 seconds left. Obediah Church blocked Billy Wampler’s layup and grabbed the rebound on Drake’s next possession. Jarred Dixon’s free throws stretched the Bears’ lead to 75-72.

De’Antae McMurray made a free throw and intentionally missed the second attempt to pull Drake to 75-73. Johnson grabbed the rebound and was immediately fouled with three seconds left, and made 1 of 2 free throws. Following a Missouri State timeout, Woodward shot a deep 3-pointer but it hit the back of the rim at the buzzer.
