Trojan Wrestling Shows up for Senior Night

Atlantic wrestling went 2-0 on senior night winning against Harlan and Denison-Schleswig. The Trojans notched five pins in the first seven matches of the dual against Denison-Schleswig. Atlantic had a dominant 56-18 dual win with the Monarchs.

The Trojans continues with the same energy into their dual with Harland and defeated the Cyclones 54-26. Atlantic would notch 13 total pins through two duals of their 15 won matches.

Atlantic wrestling returns this weekend to their home gym to host the Rollin Dyer Invitational Tournament starting at 10 am on Saturday, January 6th. Here are your full results:

Drake women beat Indiana State

The Drake women outscored Indiana State 29-8 in the second quarter and raced away to a 77-47 victory in Des Moines. The Bulldogs outrebounded the Sycamores 53-37 to move to 2-0 in the Missouri Valley.

That’s Drake coach Allison Pohlman. The Bulldogs led by as many as 32 points to move to 9-4 overall.

CAM Girls basketball played efficient at home

The CAM Cougars girls’ basketball team looked efficient with a home win over the Southwest Valley Timberwolves on Thursday night 64-27. The Cougars had to fight to find a lead in the first quarter, which was followed immediately by an 21-0 run early in the second quarter to blow the game open. CAM led 36-12 at the end of the first half and grew the lead to 33 by the end of the third. The Cougars led by as many as 40 down the stretch.

The Cougars were led by 21 points from Eva Steffensen. Kiera Nichols also finished in double figures dropping down 12. Southwest Valley got 12 points from Mackenzie Fast in the loss.

CAM improves to 9-1 and go on the road to Ar-We-Va Friday Night. Southwest Valley falls drops to 2-6 and travel to Central Decatur on Friday.

CAM basketball starts 2024 off with a win

The CAM Cougars basketball team opened up 2024 with gritty play on Thursday against Southwest Valley and won 58-39. The Cougars exchanged leads multiple times in the first  the first quarter and grabbed a lead by going on a 9-0 run to end the first quarter. That same intensity continued throughout the second quarter and CAM saw their lead grow to 11 thanks to multiple Ryan Bower threes. CAM was up 33-22 going into halftime and never lost the lead again throughout the rest of the game.

Collin Bower was a big part of the physical dominance on Thursday night with a team high 22 rebounds and 13 points. Ryan Bower led the team in scoring with 18 points. The Cougars dominated the rebounding column and converted their second chance opportunities into easy buckets. CAM head coach Ian Hunt talked about Collin Bower’s impact.

Coach Hunt liked the way his team played overall and want’s them to keep their energy consistent.

 

Southwest Valley was led by 12 from Alex Morgan and 11 from Cael Hogan. The Timberwolves fall to 5-3 on the season. CAM bumps up to 4-4 and Travel to Ar-We-Va Friday night.

Iowa men host Rutgers on Saturday

Two teams in need of a victory collide in Iowa City Saturday when the Hawkeye men host Rutgers. Iowa is 0-3 in the Big Ten while the Scarlet Knights are 0-2 after a 76-72 loss at Ohio State.

That’s Iowa coach Fran McCaffery who says Rutgers will provide a physical test.

Iowa is 0-3 in the Big Ten for the second straight year, but last season rebounded to finish 11-9.

Iowa State men open Big 12 play Saturday at No. 11 Oklahoma

The Iowa State men take an 11-2 record into Saturday’s start of the Big 12 race at 11th ranked Oklahoma. After a 15-17 record last season the Sooners enter the league race with a record of 12-1.

That’s ISU coach T.J. Otzelberger who says after a number of lopsided wins in nonconference play the Cyclones are ready for the grind of the Big 12 race.

Sophomore guard Tamin Lipsey says the Sooners will be a difficult test.

Lipsey says it would be a huge road win to get to start conference.

No. 4 Iowa women visit Rutgers Friday night

The fourth ranked Iowa Hawkeye women are on the road Friday night at Rutgers. The Hawkeyes are 3-0 in the Big Ten and beat the Scarlet Knights 111-57 in Iowa City last season.

That’s Iowa coach Lisa Bluder. Rutgers is 0-3 in the league race, but Bluder says their size makes them good on defense.

The Hawkeyes are coming off a win over Michigan State at the buzzer and Bluder says the Spartans are one of several teams in the Big Ten that are much improved.
