AP Source: Chiefs sign Tyreek Hill to $54 million extension

Sports

September 6th, 2019 by Ric Hanson

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A person familiar with the negotiations tells The Associated Press that the Kansas City Chiefs and wide receiver Tyreek Hill have signed a three-year, $54 million contract extension. The Chiefs announced the contract Friday with a photo of Hill signing it and giving the “peace” sign. The deal includes a $5.8 million signing bonus and $35.2 million in guarantees, a person with knowledge of the deal told the AP on condition of anonymity because terms were not disclosed.

Hill had a tumultuous offseason in which he was barred from any team activities while the NFL and local authorities investigated allegations of domestic violence. Hill was cleared before the start of training camp and has participated throughout the preseason. The two-time All-Pro was entering the final year of his rookie contract.

Stonestreet stars as Chiefs coach’s brother in spoof video

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — “Modern Family” star Eric Stonestreet plays the part of the bumbling younger brother of Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid in a new spoof video that was released in advance of the first game of the regular season. The video features Stonestreet as Randy, the owner of a California Jet Ski business who suffered a career-ending football injury as a 10-year-old. While getting his ankles taped alongside disinterested players, he explains, “Pop Warner. It’s no joke.”

Throughout the video, he offers players advice and discounts on personal watercraft. General Manager Brett Veach says, “He’s almost like having another coach out there, one that we don’t want or need.” Stonestreet, a Kansas City, Kansas, native plays the character Cameron Tucker, on the ABC sitcom that is in its final season.

Atlantic takes to the road to face Creston tonight on KJAN

Trojan LogoThe Atlantic Trojans (1-0) have their first road test of the football season tonight with a trip to face the Creston O-M Panthers (1-0), and we’ll have coverage on KJAN.

Creston had an impressive week one victory over Chariton 42-0. Senior quarterback Eli Louden led a strong aerial attack for the Panthers with 338 yards and 4 touchdowns through the air. Wideout Cael Kralik made a splash in that win as well catching 8 balls for 252 yards and 3 of those scores. Atlantic Head Coach Mike McDermott said the Trojan defense will have to be assignment sound against the Panthers offense.

The Trojans opened up the season with a 49-13 win over Saydel at the Trojan Bowl. The Trojans were able to hit some big plays early in that game and had a 35-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Tyler Moen led the ground attack with 191 yards and 4 touchdowns in that game. Creston Head Coach Brian Morrison said the Panthers will need to keep Moen contained inside.

The Trojans and Panthers are set for a 7:00pm kickoff tonight. We’ll have pregame starting at 6:30pm on KJAN as Chris Parks and Mike Smith bring you the call. You can listen on-air or online, and you can also watch live streaming video on KJAN TV. You can hear a full preview of the game with Atlantic Head Coach Mike McDermott on Trojan Preview at 4:45pm on KJAN and afterwards in podcast form.

Here is the latest Mid-America sports news from The Associated Press

UNDATED (AP) — No. 20 Iowa hosts Rutgers in the Big Ten opener for both teams. The Hawkeyes pounded Miami of Ohio 38-14, while Rutgers beat UMass 48-21 to also move to 1-0 on the young season.

UNDATED (AP) — Former Big Eight/12 adversaries No. 25 Nebraska and Colorado meet in Boulder for the first time since 2009. Colorado rallied for a 33-28 win in Lincoln, Nebraska, last season.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Eric Lee Jr. finally had his breakout game for Nebraska. The fifth-year senior safety pledged to former coach Bo Pelini in 2014 and languished at cornerback under Mike Riley. After getting off to a rough start with new coach Scott Frost, Lee saw his role increase against South Alabama when Deontai Williams went out with an injury. Lee ran back an interception for a touchdown and picked off another pass. This week he returns to his home state to play against Colorado.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Jacksonville’s 2018 season began to unravel in Kansas City. The Chiefs scored on three of their first four possessions, led 20-0 at halftime and seemingly could have dictated the final score. Kansas City went on to win 30-14 and sent the Jags into a seven-game tailspin that ruined their much-hyped season and caused them to make the ultra-expensive decision at quarterback. They’re counting on that offseason move making a huge difference in the rematch Sunday in Jacksonville.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs’ locker room is hardly a pressure-packed place with the NFL’s regular season rapidly approaching. A team that many peg as the AFC favorites is full of jokesters, a hard-working yet light-hearted attitude pervasive. In fact, that may just be one of the things that drives Kansas City to a Super Bowl berth.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Dakota Hudson pitched six innings of one-hit ball and hit a two-run single for his first big league RBIs, helping the St. Louis Cardinals rout the San Francisco Giants 10-0 to open a three-game lead over the second-place Chicago Cubs in the NL Central. Paul DeJong hit a two-run homer and Paul Goldschmidt singled and scored twice for the Cardinals, who for the sixth time in seven games. San Francisco has lost five of six and eight of 10, dropping 9½ games back for the NL’s second wild card.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Jordy Mercer put the Tigers ahead with their third home run of the fourth inning, and Detroit overcame a three-run deficit in a victory for the first time this year by beating Kansas City 6-4. The Royals built a 3-0 lead in the second. Harold Castro started the comeback with an RBI single in the third, and Detroit took a 4-3 lead in the fourth off Glenn Sparkman when Brandon Dixon, Dawel Lugo and Mercer went deep for the Tigers’ first three-homer inning this year.
