February 7th, 2020 by admin

The CAM Cougars played a well-rounded game on Friday night and took down the Exira-EHK Spartans 73-53. The Cougars got into rhythm early and jumped on top 15-7 at the end of the first quarter. That lead would swell to 37-19 by halftime and the Cougars never looked back. The offense fed off of some fast break chances and it was a solid shooting night for the Cougars. CAM Head Coach Nick Hodges loved the way his team played.

The Cougars were able to avenge one of their 4 losses on the season. They dropped the road game against the Spartans back on January 7th 58-48. The Cougars made a lot of great extra passes to turn a good look into a great one, and Coach Hodges said when they do that they are a tough team to defend.

Connor McKee had another big night for the Cougars, dropping in 24 points a night after he scored 15 against Audubon. Connor said he was feeling confident heading into the game.

McKee also thought the Cougars did a great job sharing the ball.

CAM improves to 15-4 with the victory. They will travel to Paton-Churdan on Monday.

Exira-EHK was led by 23 points from Creighton Nelson as the Spartans dropped to 10-9 on the season. They will host Boyer Valley on Monday.

(AP) – The St. Louis Cardinals won the National League Central and advanced to the league championship series last season before falling to the Washington Nationals. They return the bulk of their lineup, along with their rotation and one of the game’s best relief corps. But they also reside in one of the most difficult divisions in the game. The Cubs and Brewers also have won the Central in recent years, and the Reds are trending up after making some big offseason moves.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – A Kansas City Chiefs fan says he took a “professional NFL hit” when he slammed into a parking meter while trying to catch a pass from quarterback Patrick Mahomes during the team’s Super Bowl victory parade. Forty-three-year-old LaRue Bell told The Kansas City Star that the pass was intended for him but that the defender/parking meter denied him the opportunity Wednesday. Millions have watched the video on social media. Even Mahomes checked in on Twitter, asking “Yo is the dude who hit the parking meter okay.” Bell says he is sore, noting that the pole “was not forgiving at all.”

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Monika Czinano scored 23 points and Kathleen Doyle, with a school assist record, and Amanda Ollinger had double-doubles as No. 20 Iowa avenged an early Big Ten Conference loss with a 76-60 win over Nebraska. Doyle distributed a single-game record 15 assists with 15 points; Ollinger scored 11 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. The Hawkeyes (19-4, 10-2), who have won 33 straight at home, lost 78-69 at Nebraska. Their last home loss was to Nebraska on Jan. 28, 2018. AMES, Iowa (AP) — University leaders have determined there’s not enough evidence to pursue charges stemming from allegations that University of Iowa marching band members were targets of abuse during last season’s football game at Iowa State University. Members of the Hawkeye Marching Band allege that they were subjected to racial slurs and other verbal abuse as well as sexual harassment during the Sept. 14 contest. Iowa Board of Regents President Mike Richards said in a news release Wednesday that the two universities’ presidents, lawyers and police chiefs had discussed the investigation and decided not to seek charges.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Royals head into spring training with a new outlook. The team was sold in the offseason to Kansas City businessman John Sherman and Mike Matheny was hired to replace retired manager Ned Yost. The moves come after the Royals lost more than 100 games for the second consecutive year. The Royals spent last season trying to usher the first wave of young players to the big leagues. Their development will be a major focus this season. So will the growth of the young pitchers still in the minors. Pitchers and catchers report to Arizona on Feb. 12.

UNDATED (AP) — Baylor doesn’t spend time pondering a few minutes in Alaska the first week of the season. The Bears have won 19 games in a row since blowing a late 10-point lead against Washington. Baylor is just ahead of No. 3 Kansas in the conference standings, with the difference being the Bears’ first win at Allen Fieldhouse. That is the only Big 12 loss for Kansas.
