Former Iowa Speedway CEO and President Stan Clement dies

(Radio Iowa) – Former Iowa Speedway CEO and President Stan Clement has died after a battle with cancer. Clement was able to get longtime NASCAR driver Rusty Wallace to design the track and pushed to get it built. Newton Mayor Mike Hansen.

Hansen says Clement played a key role in getting the Iowa Speedway built in 2005.

Vicker takes over cross country program at Southwestern Community College

Southwestern Community College in Creston announced on Monday that Scott Vicker has been promoted to Head Cross Country Coach. He will be switching roles with former Head Coach Trey Bruton, who will slide into an assistant role instead.

Vicker is a former prep runner for Creston and competed collegiality at Saint Louis University. He spent time as a sports writer and editor for the Creston News Advertiser before taking a role as marketing specialist for Southwestern Community College.

Bruton will also be stepping away as head track and field coach for Southwestern, a position he took over in 2018. The school is actively looking for their next track and field coach.

Kyle Larson returns to racing in World of Outlaws event

(KNOXVILLE, Iowa A-P) Kyle Larson returned to racing for the first time since he was fired by Chip Ganassi Racing for using a racial slur in an iRacing event last month. Larson was one of 24 drivers to make the main event in Friday night’s World of Outlaws race at Knoxville Raceway. The $15,000-to-win Invitational was held without spectators on the dirt oval in Knoxville, Iowa. Larson drove a car fielded by Paul Silva with sponsorship from Tarlton & Son Inc. and Finley Farms. He finished 10th.

Chiefs will start title defense at home against Houston, 2020 schedule revealed

The National Football League announced on Thursday the regular season schedule for the 2020 season. The Kansas City Chiefs will play five primetime contests, including two nationally televised home games at Arrowhead Stadium.

Kansas City will kick off its Super Bowl title defense on the NFL’s opening night against the Houston Texans at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 10. The contest will be a rematch of last year’s AFC Divisional playoff game where the Chiefs overcame a 24-0 deficit to defeat the Texans 51-31. The Chiefs will celebrate their Super Bowl LIV title that night by raising their championship banner.

Other primetime matchups include a Monday Night Football game at Baltimore on September 28th,  a Thursday Night Football trip to Buffalo on October 15th, and Sunday Night Football matchups at Las Vegas on November 22nd and a hosting the Denver Broncos on December 6th.

Prairie Meadows still hoping to offer 31st year of horse racing

(Radio Iowa) — Prairie Meadows is still hoping to offer a 31st season of horse racing. The meet was scheduled to start May first but has been delayed according to CEO Gary Palmer.

Palmer says they are looking at several options as they wait for the all clear.

Palmer says once they get permission to open it won’t take long to start racing.

Palmer says they are still planning on a mixed thoroughbred/quarter horse meet.
