The Iowa Hawkeye women are the top seed in the Albany two region and opens Saturday at home against the winner of the first four game between Holy Cross and UT Martin.
That’s Iowa coach Lisa Bluder. The other game in Iowa City on Saturday will match West Virginia against Princeton.
Anna Miller’s lunging shot in the lane beat the buzzer as the Drake women edged Missouri State 76-75 to win a second straight Missouri Valley Conference Tournament title. Miller’s game winner came after the Bulldogs squandered a 14-point fourth quarter lead.
Drake set up the winning play after Lacy Stokes gave Missouri State a one point lead with two-point-six seconds remaining.

A Big 12 record and nation-high tying eight teams were selected for the 2024 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship. Regular season titleholder Houston earned a No. 1 seed in its first year in the Conference while Iowa State, winner of the 2024 Phillips 66 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championship, was awarded a No. 2 seed. Other participants and seeds are No. 3. Baylor, No. 4. Kansas, No. 6. BYU, No. 6. Texas Tech, No. 7. Texas and No. 9. TCU.
The Big 12 has a No. 1 seed for the fourth consecutive year and 16th season out of 27. Two teams are in the top two seed lines for the ninth occasion, including the third straight year.
Heading into postseason play, the Big 12 holds the nation’s best NET average (46.2) and strength of schedule (39.6). The Big 12 is the only league with 10 teams in the top 46 of the NET.
At least seven Big 12 teams will play in the Big Dance for the eighth season since 2010, including seven of the last 10 tournaments conducted. The Big 12 has had six or more NCAA Championship teams in 10 of 27 years, including 11 seasons since 2012. From 2014-24, the Big 12 has 68 selections, the third-best total of any conference.
The Big 12 has captured two national championships in the previous three years with Baylor winning the 2021 title and Kansas bringing home the 2022 trophy. Conference teams have played in four of the past five Final Fours, including three national championship game appearances.

Iowa State coach T.J. Otzelberger will go up against his former team when the Cyclones play South Dakota State on Thursday in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament in Omaha. Otzelberger spent three seasons as coach of the Jackrabbits from 2016 to 2019.

Cyclone fans flooded Kansas City last week for the Big 12 Tournament and now have a short trip to the NCAA Tournament.
After crushing top ranked Houston to win the Big 12 Tournament Otzelberger says the Cyclones are focused on the next challenge.
Drake will play Washington State Thursday in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament in Omaha. The Bulldogs are seeded 10th in the East Region after winning the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.
That’s Bulldog coach Darian DeVries. It is Drake’s third trip to the NCAA Tournament in four years.
DeVries spent nearly 20 years as an assistant at Creighton prior to taking the Drake job.
The Bulldogs knew they were in the field but did not have to wait long to see their name called.
That’s junior forward Tucker DeVries. The Bulldogs are 28-6 and enjoying their fourth straight season of 25 wins or more.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the 23rd time in school history, the Iowa State men’s basketball team has earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Cyclones have reached 10 NCAA Tournaments since 2012, one of 10 teams in the field this year to do so.
Iowa State (27-7, 13-5 Big 12) earned a No. 2 seed in the West Region and will face No. 15 seed South Dakota State (22-12, 12-4 Summit) on Thursday, March 21, in Omaha. Game time and TV information will be announced by the NCAA later tonight.
In his third season as head coach of the team, T.J. Otzelberger joins Tim Floyd as the only coaches in school history to take a team to the NCAA Tournament in their first three seasons at the helm. Otzelberger will be making his fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament, as he also led South Dakota State to the 2017 and 2018 tournaments.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Iowa State men’s basketball team is back on top of the Big 12 Championship podium once again!
Iowa State (27-7) blitzed No. 1 Houston (30-4) on its way to a 69-41 victory Saturday evening at T-Mobile Center as it won the Big 12 Championship for the fifth time in the last 10 tournaments and the sixth time overall.
In a battle of the Big 12’s two best defensive teams it was Iowa State that reigned supreme, holding the Cougars to just 26.8 percent shooting from the field (15-56) to hand the Cougars their worst loss of the Kelvin Sampson era, as well as the largest margin of victory ever in a Big 12 Championship game.
The win also marked Iowa State’s fourth-ever win against a No. 1 team. The 28-point win was also the third-largest margin of victory ever over a No. 1 team.
How It Happened
The Cyclones held a 30-23 lead at the half behind a stifling defensive effort that limited the nation’s top-ranked team to just 28.1 percent field goal shooting.
Houston took an 11-9 lead before the Cyclones heated up from long distance. Three-pointers by Curtis Jones and Milan Momcilovic propelled the Cyclones on an 8-0 run to put them up 17-11 and force a Houston timeout with 9:11 left in the opening period. The teams swapped baskets and the Cougars trimmed the ISU lead to 24-21, but back-to-back 3-pointers by Momcilovic and Tamin Lipsey extended the lead back to 30-21. Houston got a late basket to make it a seven-point deficit at the half. Keshon Gilbert, who scored ISU’s first four points of the game, finished the half with nine points.
The Cyclones went on a 10-0 run to open the second half and never looked back, extending its lead to as many as 32 points. Houston started the second half just 1-for-14 as ISU led 54-28 with 7:52 remaining in the game.
The rest was just semantics as the Cyclones rolled to T.J. Otzelberger’s first championship as head coach at Iowa State.
Top Performers
The freshman Momcilovic led the Cyclones with 18 points, connecting on four 3-pointers.
Gilbert added 16 points, while Hason Ward chipped in 13 points off the bench.
All-Tournament Team
Gilbert, Lipsey, Momcilovic earned spots on the Big 12 Championship All-Tournament team. Gilbert was named the tournament’s most outstanding player.
