CRESTON, Iowa (AP) — The longtime manager of the Creston Water Department is under investigation, but officials aren’t saying why. KCCI reports Creston’s mayor confirmed that Steve Green is being investigated by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the state auditor. Green has managed the water department for about 30 years. He is suspended with pay while he is being investigated.
WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — A Waterloo police officer’s decision to shoot and kill a fleeing 22-year-old man is being investigated. The Iowa Criminal Division of Investigation says the incident happened near a Waterloo bar around 1:45 a.m. yesterday morning. Officer Kyle Law is on administrative leave while the fatal shooting of Derrick Ambrose at the New World Lounge Two is investigated.
CARTER LAKE, Iowa (AP) — Omaha, Nebraska police officers rescued two people and a dog from Carter Lake after their boat capsized. An officer spotted the overturned boat in Carter Lake, Iowa yesterday and called for help. Paramedics were worried that 55-year-old Kay Dunn and her 32-year-old son, Nathaniel Nelson, could develop hypothermia if they were in the water too long. The dog, Buster, was taken to the Nebraska Humane Society to get checked out.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Cedar Rapids police say a driver may have been going the wrong way on Interstate 380 before a head-on collision that killed one person and injured another. Police say the crash happened shortly after 3 a.m. yesterday. The names of the drivers were not immediately released.

CARTER LAKE, Iowa (AP) — Omaha police officers rescued two people and a dog from Carter Lake after their boat capsized. An officer spotted the overturned boat in Carter Lake, Iowa, Sunday and called for help. Paramedics were worried that 55-year-old Kay Dunn and her 32-year-old son, Nathaniel Nelson, could develop hypothermia if they were in the water too long. Four other Omaha police officers responded and helped get the two people and their dog out of the water.
The two people who were rescued and one officer were taken to the hospital to be checked for hypothermia after being in the water for about 20 minutes. The dog, Buster, was taken to the Nebraska Humane Society to get checked out.
A trio of area school district Boards of Education are slated to hold separate meetings Monday evening. The Griswold School Board will gather at 5:30-p.m. in the Central Office Board Room. On their agenda under Old Business, is an update on district facility improvement projects, and action on various board policies. Additional action will be taken with regard to specifications for a Lift Bus and an Early Retirement Policy.
In Anita, the CAM School Board will meet in the High School Media Center, beginning at 7-p.m., Monday. Discussion and/or action items on their agenda include: A report from Snyder and Associates; A School Budget Review Committee (SBRC) application; Open enrollment applications; a Resignation and Superintendent Goals.
And, in Elk Horn, the E-H-K School Board will meet at 7-p.m. Monday in the Family and Consumer Science Room at the High School. New business on their agenda consists of: Suggested changes to the Early Retirement Package; Matters pertaining to the phone system; Bus cameras on all buses; Approval of an agreement with the Atlantic Community School District for Special Education; Approval of the Iowa Association of Drug and Alcohol Testing Program (IADATP) for Bus Driver’s Drug testing; and, approval of the Certified Annual Report (CAR).
A complaint about a reported trespasser led to the arrest of a Red Oak man late Saturday night. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department says 21-year old Jesus Garcia-Rodriguez, of Red Oak, was taken into custody at around 11:40-p.m., on a charge of OWI/1st Offense.
Officials say his arrest was the result of a trespass complaint filed by a resident on Ginko Avenue in Red Oak. Garcia-Rodriguez was located in the driveway of 2360 Highway 48. During their investigation, deputies determined the man had been drinking. After Garcia-Rodriguez was given and failed a Field Sobriety Test, he was placed under arrest and transported to the Montgomery County Jail, where he was being held on $1.000 bond.

ANKENY, Iowa (AP) — The developer behind a proposed $150 million casino at Ankeny is giving the city the option of bowing out of the deal. Wild Rose Entertainment said Friday it will give Ankeny officials an opportunity to opt out of a contract the city and developer signed on October 29th. The $150 million casino project would be built near a new interchange on Interstate 35 in the Des Moines suburb.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — An 8-year-old boy is being credited with saving members of his family from carbon monoxide poisoning. Sioux City television station KCAU-TV reports that Jacob Mace was sleeping at his grandmother’s house Tuesday night when he woke up feeling ill. He alerted family members who were able to get out. All were diagnosed with carbon monoxide poisoning at a Sioux City hospital. The poison was traced to a malfunctioning furnace.
BUFFALO, Iowa (AP) — A 24-year-old Buffalo man is dead following a rollover crash in eastern Iowa. The Scott County Sheriff’s Department says Jacob O’Connell was killed in the wreck around 1 a.m. yesterday on a county road between Buffalo and Blue Grass.
BADGER, Iowa (AP) — A Central Iowa man is struggling to recover from injuries he received when he was run over by a tractor on his farm. The Fort Dodge Messenger reports that Jerry Warehime, of rural Badger, was hurt late Friday afternoon while he was working on the tractor at his home.
Local and Federal authorities are investigating a bank robbery which occurred Saturday morning in Fremont County. According to reports, the incident happened at around 9:30-a.m., in Riverton, after a white male subject entered the Great Western Bank and later fled on foot with an undetermined amount of cash. The suspect was described as being about six-feet tall. He had a small goatee, wore a black hooded sweatshirt and sunglasses. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the Fremont County Sheriff’s office at 712-374-2424.
NORFOLK, Neb. (AP) – The estate of the late Johnny Carson has given the go-ahead for a movie about his life. The Norfolk (NE) Daily News reports that the project is being written by John McLaughlin, who adapted the biopic “Hitchcock,” starring Anthony Hopkins. Carson was the longtime host of television’s “The Tonight Show.” He was born in Corning, Iowa, grew up in Norfolk, Neb., and attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. He died in California in 2005.
The movie will be based on the upcoming book, “Carson the Magnificent: An Intimate Portrait,” written by Bill Zehme. Zehme was a consultant and appeared in the “American Masters” documentary, “Johnny Carson: King of Late Night,” that aired on PBS last May.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) – An 8-year-old Sioux City boy is being credited with saving members of his family from carbon monoxide poisoning. Jacob Mace was sleeping at his grandmother’s house Tuesday night when he woke up feeling ill. He then woke up his grandmother, Debbie Beardsley, who also was ill. She thought they might have the flu, until other family members in the house reported feeling ill, too.
Beardsley and her 29-year-old son took Jacob and Beardsley’s 16-year-old granddaughter to a Sioux City hospital, where it was discovered they were all suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning. Carbon monoxide is a colorless and odorless deadly gas. The poison was traced to a malfunctioning furnace.
