Update on charges for Des Moines man in kidnapping case

Stuart Police have released information on charges for a 36-year-old Des Moines man for kidnapping and sexually assaulting an acquaintance. Stuart Police Sgt. Ryan Harding says Corey Wayne Drake held the woman at a motel in Stuart overnight Saturday, September 12th. She talked to police on Sunday the 13th, and Drake was arrested at his home on Garfield Avenue in Des Moines.

A press release today shows that Drake was charged with Sexual Abuse in the 1st Degree and Kidnapping in the 1st Degree.  He is being held on no bond.

The Adair County Sheriff’s Office released details on numerous recent arrests by multiple agencies in the county.

On Friday, September 18th at 2:40pm Greenfield Police arrested 18-year-old Corbin Willis Dowdell of Greenfield for Aggravated Domestic Assault.  The incident occurred at 407 SE Kent Street in Greenfield.  Dowdell was taken into custody and held on $2,000 bond.

On Thursday, September 17th at 4:41pm Stuart Police arrested 32-year-old Kyle Brent Sloss of Stuart for 2nd Degree Harassment.  Sloss was taken into custody and later released on $100 cash bond.

On Wednesday, September 16th at 10:21pm Adair County Sheriff Deputies arrested 29-year-old Crystal Leigh Estell of Creston for Driving While Barred.  Estell was stopped at 260th and Henry A. Wallace and was later released from custody on $2,000 bond.

On Tuesday, September 15th Greenfield Police arrested 18-year-old Braxton Dibel Wallace of Greenfield on multiple charges: Eluding Police, No Insurance, Failure to Obey a Stop Sign, ATV Operation on Highway/Snowmobile Trails, Unsafe Passing, and Operating Without Registration.  Wallace was taken into custody and later released on $2,000 bond.

On Sunday, September 13th Adair County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 27-year-old Joshua Joel Grubbs of Casey for Serious Domestic Assault.  The arrest occurred at 9:24am at 1217 Kent Avenue in Casey.  Grubbs was taken into custody and later released on $100 cash bond.

Creston PD reports numerous weekend arrests

The Creston Police Department has released details on a number of weekend arrests.

On Saturday, September 19th Creston Police made 4 separate arrests.  At 3:48am officers arrested 22-year-old Trevor Nichols on the 200 block of North Maple Street and charged him with Public Intoxication.  He was released from the Union County Jail on a $300 bond.

At 4:34pm Saturday Creston PD arrested 24-year-old James Syrotchen Jr. of Holly Hill, FL at Highway 34 and Chestnut Street on the charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance Marijunana.  He was released from the Union County Jail on a $1,000 bond.

At 8:30pm Saturday officers arrested 24-year-old Frank Mills Jr. of Creston at Elm and Montgomery Streets for Driving While Suspended.  Mills Jr. was released from the Union County Jail on $300 bond.

At 10:25pm Saturday Creston PD arrested 31-year-old Cassy Holcomb of Creston at 611 North Maple Street and charged her with Domestic Assault Simple. She was released from the Ringgold County Jail on $300 bond.

On Sunday Creston PD arrested 38-year-old Gerald Lawrence of Creston at 402 North Oak Street on the charge of Public Intoxication.  He was released from the Union County Jail on a $300 bond.

The Atlantic Police Department reports two recent arrests.

On Thursday, September 17th 52-year-old David Charles of Atlantic turned himself in on a Cass County Warrant for Possession of a Controlled Substance.  Charles was booked.

Also on Thursday 24-year-old Mark Fredericksen of Atlantic was arrested for Public Intoxication.  He was taken to the Cass County Jail and booked in.

On Saturday, September 19th Atlantic Police arrested 24-year-old Alexandra Smaridge of Atlantic for Possession of Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  She was taken to the Cass County Jail and booked in.

Also on Saturday officers arrested 26-year-old Jerett Justice for Possession of Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was taken to the Cass County Jail and booked in.

Blanchard man arrested for Violation of No Contact Order

A Blanchard man was arrested early this morning in Montgomery County for a valid Montgomery County Warrant for Violation of a No Contact Order. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of 30-year-old Keith James Charlier of Blanchard at 1:30am at the intersection of Highway  71 and U Avenue South of Villisca.  Charlier is being held at the Montgomery County Jail on $300 cash only bond.

Farragut man arrested after fight involving a knife Saturday

One man was injured after a fight involving a knife on Saturday night in Farragut.  The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office reports the incident occurred on Saturday night at 9:21pm in the 800 block of Hartford Avenue in Farragut.

Upon arrival at the scene deputies arrested 42-year-old Tom Murphy of Farragut for Brandishing a Weapon During a Assault and 3 counts of Child Endangerment.  An adult victim was treated and released by Farragut Rescue with minor injuries and a minor victim was uninjured.

Murphy was taken to the Fremont County Jail and held without bond.  The Shenandoah Police Department and Farragut Rescue assisted the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office.

Omaha woman arrested on drug charges after traffic stop

The Red Oak Police Department reports the arrest of an Omaha woman early Saturday morning after a traffic stop.  At 3:30am officers stopped a vehicle at the intersection of Highway 48 and Highway 34 in Red Oak for a traffic violation.

After a brief investigation officers arrested 44-year-old Christina Deloris Welch of Omaha, NE for OWI Drugged 1st Offense (A Serious Misdemeanor), Possession of a controlled substance Methamphetamine 2nd Offense (An Aggravated Misdemeanor), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (A Simple Misdemeanor).  Welch was taken to the Montgomery County Jail and held on $2,000 bond.

Ex-boyfriend suspected in taking money from a woman

Police in Council Bluffs are investigating an alleged theft of money. Officials say at around 4:05-a.m., Saturday, officers responded to the American Inn for a reported Robbery. Officers determined during the preliminary investigation that a Robbery had not occurred. The victim, Amber Max had left the motel and was located in the area by officers.

Initially, she denied any knowledge of the incident, but eventually told officers that she was staying at the American Inn and that the suspect her ex-boyfriend, was also in the motel room. The woman indicated that she had approximately $900 in cash lying on the bed and that the suspect grabbed the cash off the bed and fled the area in an unknown direction. Max indicated to police that no weapons were involved and no assault had occurred. The suspect was not located by officers.

The case remains under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Division.

Griswold School Board to swear-in new/returning members

Current members of the Griswold School District’s Board of Education will meet Monday (Sept. 21st) to hold what for some, will be their last meeting. The board convenes at 5:45 in the Central Office at the Middle School/High School Building, in Griswold. During their session, they will act on approving Board Policies in the 401 series, and review the Sept. 8th School Election results, prior to adjourning.

New Board members Ericka Kirchhof (representing District 1) and Heather Pelzer who is serving as the At Large member, along with Scott Hansen (who was re-elected to his District 2 seat), will then be sworn-in. The new Griswold School Board will act on administrative matters to come before them, and hold the first reading of several Board Policies.
