PORT RICHEY, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a Florida man who made death threats against Iowa’s governor and other state officials has been arrested. The Tampa Bay Times Pasco County deputies arrested 59-year-old Richard Gillow on Monday and charged him with making written threats to kill.

Authorities say the Port Richey man posted on Facebook and sent emails saying he was going to kill Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad, Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds, Attorney General Tom Miller, Guardian Ad Litem Kim Ayotte and an employee of the state’s Department of Human Services.

An investigator in Iowa tipped off Florida authorities to the threat. Officials say Gillow believed the Iowa officials were involved in the removal of his grandchildren from his daughter’s custody. Gillow was freed on $10,000 bail.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The Iowa Supreme Court has extended an order blocking part of a new law requiring women to wait 72 hours before they can get an abortion. The high court said in a ruling filed Tuesday that a temporary injunction approved Friday will remain in effect until a district court takes further action regarding a lawsuit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union of Iowa and Planned Parenthood of the Heartland.

ACLU and Planned Parenthood want to permanently halt the requirement, which is part of a new law that also bans most abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. The groups argue the waiting period, among the longest in the country, could cause undue harm to women by requiring multiple appointments.

Attorneys for the state have challenged that argument.

The Iowa State Patrol said Tuesday a man was critically injured when he was struck by a vehicle Sunday night as he stood by his vehicle which partially on the traveled portion of a road in Guthrie County. The accident happened east of Yale at around 9:37-p.m., Sunday. Authorities say 38-year old Curtis Moorhead, whose residence was listed as Perry, but at last report lived in Jamaica, was outside his vehicle on eastbound County Road F-25  just west of Wink Avenue and putting gas into the tank, when he was struck by an eastbound Dodge van driven by Misty Mast.

Afterward, he was transported by helicopter to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, where was last reported to be in critical condition. One adult and three children were said to be in Moorhead’s vehicle when the accident happened, but no one else was injured.

An investigation into the incident was ongoing.

A two vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon in Crawford County resulted in three people transported to the hospital. The Iowa State Patrol reports a 1996 Oldsmobile 98 Regency driven by 77-year old Garry Lee Colee, of Pocahontas, was traveling east on Highway 30 at around 12:25-p.m., when for reasons unknown the car crossed the center line of the road and collided with a westbound 2014 Chevy Silverado pickup, driven by 42-year old Jason Emil Knickman, of Dunlap.

Following the collision, the car came to rest in the south ditch, and the pickup stopped on the westbound shoulder of the road. Both drivers and a passenger in the pickup, 61-year old Dan Brasel, were transported by ambulance to the Crawford County Hospital in Denison. All three subjects were wearing their seat belts.

Audubon Police Chief Matt Starmer, Tuesday, said an Audubon woman was arrested Monday for Child Endangerment. 25-year old Cassandra Burcham-Hoagland was transported to the Audubon County Jail and held pending an appearance before a magistrate. No other details were provided.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa businessman Fred Hubbell says he’s considering a run for governor in 2018. Hubbell, a Democrat, announced Tuesday the launch of an exploratory campaign. It will allow him to travel the state and raise money.

The 66-year-old Hubbell has never been elected to public office. He formerly led Equitable Life Insurance Company of Iowa, which was formed by his family. The Hubbell name has deep roots in Iowa, with multiple business ventures including real estate. Hubbell is also known as a philanthropist and campaign donor.

The Democratic field for governor has grown in recent weeks. It includes former party chairwoman Andy McGuire, state Rep. Todd Prichard and state Sen. Nate Boulton. Polk County Conservation Director Rich Leopold and party activist Jon Neiderbach also say they’re running.

The Mills County Sheriff’s Office says two Red Oak men were arrested on separate charges, and two accidents over the past few days. On Sunday, 22-year old Andrew Michael Knutson, was arrested for OWI/1st offense. Bond was set at $1,000. That same day, 23-year old Dakota Christian Thomas Sexton was arrested for Driving Under Suspension, and on a Scott County warrant. His bond amounted to was $2,696 altogether.

An accident Sunday morning in Mills County resulted in 28-year old Rocio Tapia, of Bellevue, NE., being sent to Creighton Medical Center by Glenwood Rescue. Authorities say Tapia was traveling east on Highway 34 at around 5:50-a.m. and as she was attempting to turn onto Highway 275, her brakes failed. The 2011 KIA left the road and entered the southeast ditch where the car flipped and landed on its roof.

The other accident happened at around 5:35-p.m. Saturday, at 390th Street and Jamison Road. Officials say 18-year old Logan Hardman, of Tabor, was driving a 1987 Lincoln northbound on 390th when he lost control on the gravel due to being an inexperienced driver. The car hit a guardrail. Hardman was cited for Not Having a Valid Driver’s License. No injuries were reported.

The Page County Sheriff’s Office reports a traffic stop on a motorcycle in Clarinda late Monday morning resulted in the arrest of 44-year old Gary Lynn Runyon, of Coin. Runyon was arrested for driving while license disqualified or suspended.  He was transported to the Page County Jail on $435 bond.  Runyon later posted bond and is awaiting pending court proceedings.

Early this (Tuesday) morning, Page County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a complaint of a Domestic Disturbance at 2704 250th Street in rural Page County (about one-mile north of Shambaugh).  As a result of an investigation 42-year old Bruce Edison VanFosson, of the above address, was arrested for Domestic Abuse Assault.  VanFosson was transported to the Page County Jail and held without bail until seen by a magistrate.

The Page County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on both arrests by the Clarinda Police Department.

The Harlan Police Department reports 32-year old Daniel Ryan Pedersen, of Harlan, was arrested Monday following a traffic stop in the 1400 block of Pine St.  Pedersen was transported to the Shelby County Jail where he was charged with driving while revoked, failure to prove security against liability, dark window/windshield, and operating a non-registered vehicle.

On May 5th, Harlan Police arrested 30-year old Jeremy James Carrier-Tischer, of Harlan, following a traffic stop in the 600 Block of Durant St.  Carrier-Tischer was transported to the Shelby County Jail where he was charged with driving while barred and failure to prove security against liability.

That same day, 43-year old Joe Jess Betances, of Harlan, was arrested on a warrant.  Betances was transported to the Shelby County Jail where he was charged with domestic abuse assault.

Adair County Sheriff Jeff Vandewater today (Tuesday) released a report on arrests that have taken place over the past week. Two people were arrested Saturday: 25-year old Dalton James Cormeny, of Fontanelle, was arrested in Fontanelle for Harassment in the 1st Degree and Criminal Mischief in the 5th Degree. Authorities say he intentionally damaged a coffee table and threatened to kill a woman in the home if she tried to call the police, all the while holding onto a chain saw. Cormeny was being held in the Adair County Jail on $2,000 bond.

And, 36-year old Kiley Marie Hannan, of Des Moines, was arrested in Fontanelle, for Driving Under Suspension. She was subsequently cited and released on the scene.

Last Friday, Adair County Deputies arrested 49-year old Shannon Lea Hogan, of Fontanelle, for Assault, after she allegedly tried to strike her ex-boyfriend Michael Huddleson, by driving toward him in a threatening manner. She then got out of her vehicle and tried to pepper spray Huddleson. The incident followed an earlier altercation between the pair. Hogan was later released on $2,000 bond. 37-year old Michael Lynn Huddleson, of Fontanelle, was arrested that same day in connection with the altercation, for 1st Degree Harassment and Trespass. Authorities say he allegedly threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend if she didn’t give him a dog he’d given her, back. During an altercation, he allegedly jumped in front of her truck while it was moving. He was released later, on $2,000 bond.

45-year old Jason Edward Caldwell, of Stuart, was arrested by Stuart Police for Driving While Barred. Caldwell was subsequently released on $2,000 bond.

On May 4th, 38-year old Daniel Richie Vais, of Casey, was arrested following a traffic stop by the Iowa State Patrol on Interstate 80. He was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (multiple hypodermic syringes) and OWI/1st offense. Vais was later released on $1,000 bond. Sheriff Vandewater said also, 62-year old James Jeffrey Reese, of Bridgewater, was arrested May 3rd on warrants for Theft in the 4th Degree and Trespassing. Reese was also cited for Driving While Revoked and Operating a non-registered vehicle. He was released the following day on $1, 300 bond. 27-year old Matthew Ryan Johnson, of Fontanelle, was arrested May 3rd also, on an Adair County warrant for Trespassing. He was later released on $300 bond.

On May 2nd, 47-year old Donald James Noggle, of Stuart, was arrested by Stuart Police for Domestic Assault causing Bodily Injury. And, on May 1st, 18-year old Spencer Douglas Calkins, of Corning, was arrested for OWI. He was cited at the scene and then released.
