Fremont County Sheriff’s report

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Department today (Monday) released a report on recent arrests. Officials say last Thursday, 21-year old Andrew Lemrick, of Shenandoah, was arrested for a Probation Violation. And, three people were arrested last Tuesday (Nov. 13th), including: 33-year old James Burson, of Council Bluffs, who was arrested for Theft in the 2nd degree, an ATV violation, and for Failure to Maintain Control; 29-year old Danielle Dickinson, of Bellevue, NE,  was arrested Tuesday, for a Probation Violation, and on a warrant out of Page County; and, 24-year old Tyler Witter, of Nebraska City, NE, was arrested in Fremont County, on a charge of Simple Assault.

Arrested on November 8th, was: 47-year old Linda Mees, of Riverton, on a charge of Simple Assault; and 29-year old Christina Marie Stocksdill, also of Riverton, who was also arrested for Simple Assault. On November 7th, 38-year old Davey Lee Swanson, of Riverton, was arrested in Fremont County for Public Intoxication, and on November 2nd, 19-year old Andrew Thomas Sunday, of Council Bluffs, was arrested for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and improper use of registration.

3 accidents in Atlantic, Friday

The Atlantic Police Department says no injuries were reported following three accidents that occurred on Friday. Officials say Shirley Lemke, of Adair, was cited for Failure to Yield upon making a left turn, after her vehicle collided with one driven by Brian Masteller, of Wiota. The accident happened at around 3-p.m. Friday, at the intersection of Highways Six and 71. Damage from the crash amounted to $14,000.

The second accident happened at around 6:45-p.m. on Highway 6, near the intersection with Park Drive. Officials say a vehicle driven by Nathan Grieshaber, of Atlantic, struck a deer. The mishap caused $1,500 damage.

And, an accident at around 9:25-p.m. in the Wal-Mart parking lot caused $5,700 damage. Atlantic Police say a vehicle driven by Richard McManis, of Red Oak, was pulling a trailer clipped a legally parked vehicle owned by Joshua Peach, of Anita. The accident happened as McManis was traveling south through the parking lot, and attempted to cut across a row. In doing so, he turned too sharply, causing the trailer to clip the right rear of Peachs’ vehicle. No citations were issued.

Iowa lawmakers preparing marijuana legislation

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Bills that would decriminalize marijuana and would approve its medical use may be headed for the Iowa Legislature.  State Rep. Bruce Hunter told The Des Moines Register that he is preparing a bill on decriminalizing pot possession as long as those caught with marijuana weren’t selling it.

The Democrat also says he’ll reintroduce a medical marijuana bill, and state Sen. Joe Bolkcom says he’ll be seeking co-sponsors in the coming session for his medical marijuana measure.  Gov. Terry Branstad has said he’ll veto bills that would legalize marijuana for any use.  Voters in Colorado and Washington approved ballot measures earlier this month that let adults 21 and over to possess small amounts of marijuana under state regulation and taxation.

Frederickson Fund donates $7k to AFD for thermal imaging device

A representative with The Trevor Frederickson Memorial Fund says the fund recently donated $7,000 to the Atlantic Fire Department, to assist them in purchasing an updated thermal imager.

1 injured during rollover accident NE of Red Oak Sunday night

One person was hurt during a single-vehicle rollover accident Sunday night, northeast of Red Oak. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department reports 45-year old Danny Leroy Lewis, of Red Oak, was transported to the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital following the 8:35-p.m. crash in the 1900 block of Avenue K.

Authorities say Lewis was traveling north on K Avenue when his 1990 Nissan pickup crossed the road, entered the west ditch and rolled over. Lewis was pinned in the vehicle and had to be extricated by Red Oak Fire and Rescue personnel. Officials say alcohol played a role in the crash, and charges are pending against Lewis. Damage from the accident amounted to $2,500.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by officers with the Red Oak Police Department and Red Oak Fire and Rescue.

Prescott woman arrested Sunday evening

Sheriff’s officials in Adams County say an accident Sunday evening resulted in the arrest of a woman on alcohol-related charges. Tammy Oltman, of Prescott, was charged with Operating a motor vehicle While Intoxicated. Oltman was booked into the Adams County Jail following the accident, which occurred at around 4:35-p.m, Sunday. No injuries were reported as a result of the accident, and no other details were provided.

Car vs. Tractor accident in Adams County, Sunday

No injuries were reported following a collision between a car and a tractor Sunday afternoon near Nodaway, in Adams County. The Sheriff’s Department says Tanya Barnard, of Lamoni, went to pass a farm tractor at around 3:15-p.m.  As she was passing the machine, the tractor proceeded to make a turn into the path of Dodge Intrepid Barnard was driving. No citations were issued.
