News

July 8th, 2012 by Ric Hanson

The Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce has announced the Atlantic Fly Iowa marketing committee has released a Facebook event page on AtlanticIowa.com with details regarding the September 15th Heritage & Homecoming Atlantic Fly Iowa Air Show. According to Fly Iowa Chair Garry Pellett, the performers at the Air Show will be “phenomenal,” and the Committee needed a way to share information with the public prior to the event, to help drum-up excitement, and preview the types of acts the public can expect to see.

The website can be found at AtlanticIowa.com in cooperation with the Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce information, under the Visiting Atlantic section. There is a special place for the Atlantic Municipal Airport information where the Fly Iowa details have been added. Pellett says four or five P-51 Mustangs will be at the Air Show. The aircraft are well known for their performance, and helping turn the tide in favor of the Allies, during World War II. Pictures of the Mustangs are available on the Facebook event Page for Fly Iowa as well as details that are being released weekly on the other performers also. Pellett says there will also be a comic aerobatic pilot and some unique, static display items.

Find the page online at AtlanticIowa.com. For more information regarding Fly Iowa call 712.243.3017 or email chamber@atlanticiowa.com.

Officials say heat contributed to Iowa man’s death

News

July 8th, 2012 by Ric Hanson

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) – The extreme heat appears to have contributed to the death of an Iowa man shortly after an Omaha car accident last month. 48-year-old Paul Tamayo, of Council Bluffs, had a core body temperature of 110 degrees when he died on June 27th.  Douglas County, NE, officials have ruled that Tamayo’s high body heat was likely the cause of his death, but the ruling won’t be final until toxicology tests are completed.

Tamayo, who worked as a roofer, crashed his car into a dirt mound in an Omaha construction zone. Then police found him collapsed about a half-mile away from the vehicle. The National Weather Service says the temperature was 101 about the time of the accident.

Alliant Energy to initiate Appliance Cycling in all of IA today

News

July 6th, 2012 by Ric Hanson

Interstate Power and Light Co. (IPL), an Alliant Energy company, announced today (Friday), that it will cycle air conditioners for all participating Iowa customers. Weather conditions are such that from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. today customers enrolled in the Appliance Cycling program will have their air conditioner cycled in 15-minute intervals to reduce overall energy usage.

Participating residential customers have a small control switch placed on or near their central air conditioner. Today, Alliant Energy will send a signal to all switches in the state. The control switch will cycle the outdoor cooling unit off and on every 15 minutes. The furnace fan will continue to circulate the cooler, drier air already in the home.

Alliant Energy pays each participating residential customer $8 per month from June through September – whether the air conditioner is cycled or not. A similar program for electric water heaters is also included in today’s event. Customers enrolled in that program receive a $2 per month discount during the same June through September time period.

Appliance Cycling events typically occur between May 15 and September 15 on weekdays from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. They are not initiated on weekends or holidays.
