TROY MILLS, Iowa (AP) — Authorities have identified a 29-year-old woman who drowned while tubing down an eastern Iowa river. The Linn County sheriff’s office says Andrea Zimmermann of Cedar Rapids died Saturday on the Wapsipinicon River. Rescuers were called to the river after four people riding tubes went over the dam in Troy Mills.

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — Waterloo-area residents are being encouraged to apply to be volunteer police officers. The volunteers will have the opportunity to become reserve officers with the Waterloo Police Department if they are accepted. The applicants must be at least 21, hold a high school diploma and have a valid driver’s license.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Some officials are concerned the Iowa Juvenile Home’s closing has created an unequal system where girls don’t have the same options. The juvenile home closed in January after questions were raised about the treatment of teenagers. State Court Administrator David Boyd says Iowa usually has no more than 20 delinquent girls that need housing at once. Policymakers will have to decide the best way to provide services.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Forecasters are urging people to take precautions as intense heat makes its way into Iowa. The National Weather Service has issued heat advisories for 74 of Iowa’s 99 counties today and tomorrow. Temperatures are expected to climb into the 90s across the region and humidity will be high.

The Atlantic Parks and Recreation Department’s Board of Directors will hold their regular monthly meeting Monday evening in the City Council’s Chambers at City Hall. The meeting begins at 5:15-p.m. with reports from Parks and Rec Director Roger Herring, on the Summer Rec Program and Capital Projects update. The latter includes information on the renovation and refurbishing of the Camblin and Kiddie Korral at Sunnyside Park and other park activities.

Herring will also update the Board of the status of the Boy Scout Cabin, the Vision Iowa Grant and Roy Newberg Memorial benches at the Schildberg Recreation Area. Herring is also expected to report on recent vandalism at the Schildberg Quarry Recreation Area, with regard to porta-potties being turned over, and a request for the public to report incidents of vandalism when they see it.

A couple of area school district boards of education are scheduled to take place Monday evening. The Griswold School Board will gather in the Central Office Board Room at the Middle School/High School Building, beginning at 5:45. Under “Old Business” on their agenda, the board will receive updates on various Summer projects.

New business at the Griswold School Board meeting includes: accepting bids for bakery, dairy, trash and snow removal; The appointment of a Board Secretary, Business Manager/Treasurer; and School Attorney; a decision on the High School and Middle School Principal Contract Settlements, and other, administrative matters.

In Anita, the CAM School Board will meet at 6:30-p.m. in the High School Media Center, where they will act on approving: Open enrollment applications; Resignations and contracts; Bread & milk bids; The setting of lunch prices and fees for the upcoming school year; A sharing agreement for Maintenance Director, and other administrative matters.

Sheriff’s officials in Fremont County report two men were arrested early Sunday morning on drug charges. 19-year old Robert Michael Guzman, Jr., of Imogene, and 18-year old Austin Donovan Neeman, of Rock Port, MO., were arrested during a traffic stop in the 2700 block of 120th Street. Both men were charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance with the intent to deliver/marijuana, Possession of an offensive weapon/sawed-off shotgun, Possession of drug paraphernalia, and Possession of a concealed weapon.

Guzman faces an additional charge of Driving While Suspended. Both men were being held in the Fremont County Jail, Sunday. Their bonds were set at $5,000 each.

Police in Red Oak arrested a local man following a brief foot pursuit late Sunday morning. Officials say officers were called to the Four-H Apartments in Red Oak at around 11:15-a.m. to investigate a reported domestic situation. When they arrived, 22-year old Dustin James Danick, of Red Oak, was seen running from the apartment complex. Officers chased Dancik into a wooded area and apprehended him in a creek. Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office assisted Red Oak Police in making the arrest.

Danick has a valid “No Trespass” order against him, that forbids his presence on the apartment complex property. Authorities say he allegedly committed $80 worth of damage to one of the apartment buildings prior to his arrest. Danick was charged with Trespass and Criminal Mischief in the 5th degree. He was being held Sunday in the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Center in $300 bond.

Danick was also arrested Saturday night on Trespass and Obstruction of Emergency Communications charges. He later posted a $300 bond and was released prior to his most recent arrest.

Sheriff’s officials in Montgomery County report a call about a domestic abuse incident at a residence west of Red Oak, resulted in one person suffering a stab wound. Deputies responded to the 2000 block of Boxelder Avenue at around 1:10-a.m. Sunday. Following an investigation, 48-year old Karen Jean Stirek, of Red Oak, was arrested on charges of Willful Injury and Domestic assault with a dangerous weapon. Stirek was brought to the Montgomery County Jail and held on $10,000 bond.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel with Red Oak Rescue and the Red Oak Police Dept.

Police in Red Oak report the arrest Saturday night of a local man. 22-year old Dustin James Danick, of Red Oak, was arrested by Red Oak Police officers at around 9:55-p.m. on charges of Trespass and Obstruction of Emergency Communications. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office reports a traffic stop Saturday evening resulted in an impaired driving arrest. 33-year old George Hernandez, of Lenox, was arrested at around 6:50-p.m. after his vehicle was pulled over at the intersection of Highway 25 and 275th Street. Hernandez was taken into custody for OWI/2nd offense and Open Container. He was brought to the Adams County Jail and held pending a court appearance.

Two Nebraska men were robbed Saturday when they went to purchase a pickup truck in Council Bluffs. According to Bluffs Police Sgt. Dave Dawson, 56-year old James Burdick and 54-year old Robert Coats, both of Omaha, were threatened and robbed by a black male brandishing a small hand gun, and a white female holding a crow bar. The incident happened at around 10:50-a.m., Saturday.

Dawson says Burdick and Coats, both employees of A-1 Auto Parts, and a towing affiliate, were instructed to meet with the unidentified suspects in the 1400 block of 4th Avenue, a dead-end street. The men had been given a determined amount of cash to purchase a 2011 Chevy Silverado extended cab truck. WHen they arrived at the predetermined location and about to confirm the sale, they were threatened by the suspects.

Burdick and Coats were forced to turn over the cash and a cell phone to the suspects, who then fled the area in the truck.  The black male suspect was said to be about 20-to 30-years old, about 5-feeet 10-inches tall, with a thin shave beard and a goatee. The white woman was in her late 20’s, was heavy set, and had brown hair in a pony tail.
