The Mills County Sheriff’s Office reports 36-year old Christopher Brown, of Glenwood, was arrested Sunday, on a warrant charging him with Harassment in the 3rd degree. Brown’s bond was set at $300.

Sheriff’s officials in Union County report a Shannon City man was arrested Saturday night. 28-year old Jeffrey Michael Hoffman was taken into custody at the Union County Law Enforcement Center on a Union County warrant for violation of a no contact/protective order, and a Union County warrant for extortion.  Hoffman was also arrested for assault use/display of a weapon, and domestic abuse assault display or use of weapon.  He was being held in the Union County Jail on $7,000 bond.

And, a Union County man reported to authorities Friday morning, that sometime in the previous few days, someone had entered his shop on 130^th Street and taken two rolls of copper wire, a bale  monitor, and stripped the wiring in the shed.  The loss was estimated at $3,200.

Forecasters say stormy weather is ahead this week for much of the state along with warmer temperatures and higher humidity levels. Meteorologist Kevin Skow, at the National Weather Service, says some parts of the state were seeing dark clouds already this (Monday) morning.

Skow says, “Today will be just the first of a series of rounds of thunderstorms that will be impacting the state throughout much of the work week.” There’s a chance of severe weather in addition to drenching rains that could bring flash flooding.

“There could be some localized heavy amounts of rainfall,” Skow says. “These storms may be slowly moving at times and total amounts of rainfall could easily be an inch in many locations with localized amounts higher than that.”

After highs across the state last week in the 60s and 70s, this week will be much more summer-like, with highs expected in the 70s and low 80s.

The Page County Sheriff’s office reports two men were arrested on separate charges, last Friday. At around 7:30-p.m. Deputies arrested 28-year old Kennith Alan Cline, of rural Clarinda, on a Page County Warrant for Parole revocation.  Cline was transported to the Page County Jail where he was being held without bond.

And, at around 8:45-p.m., Page County Deputies arrested 36-year old Michael Wayne England II, on a Page County on a warrant for Probation Violation.  England listed his address as homeless.  He was transported to the Page County Jail and was being held on $7,500 bond, pending future court proceedings.

Police in Creston arrested three men over the weekend on separate assault charges. Sunday afternoon, 42-year old Charles Clark, of Creston, was taken into custody on a Union County warrant for Domestic Abuse Assault/2nd Offense. He was being held in the Union County Jail while awaiting a bond hearing.

18-year old Kane Farlow, of Creston, was arrested Saturday afternoon, on charges of eluding, driving while suspended, reckless driving, and Assault on an Officer with weapon. He was being held in the Union County Jail on $5,000 bond. Also arrested Saturday afternoon, was 44-year old Donald Beebe, of Creston. Beebe was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault. He was later released from the Union County Jail on a Promise to Appear in Court.

Creston Police said also, a resident of the 300 block of Birch Street reported Saturday, that sometime between 8:30-p.m. May 20th and 8-a.m. May 21st, someone slashed the tires on her vehicle while it was parked outside the residence. Damage was estimated at $280. Another resident, who lives in the 800 block of west Adams Street, in Creston, reported Sunday, that someone had stolen wheels for his vehicle, and a bicycle. The theft took place sometime between the evening of May 20th and the afternoon of May 22nd. The loss was estimated at $600.

Police in Clarinda say one person was injured during a stabbing incident Saturday night. 22-year old Rocky James Runyon, of Hastings, was being treated for what were described as non-life threatening injuries, after he was stabbed in the abdomen. He was initially treated at the Clarinda Regional Health Center before being transferred to a medical facility in Omaha. 30-year old Marcus Edgar Washington, of Clarinda, faces a felony charge of Willful Injury, in connection with the incident. He was being held in the Page County Jail on $10,000 bond.

Officials say the incident, that happened at 318 E. Washington Street, and was reported at around 11:20-p.m., Saturday, remains under investigation.

A color-coded rainfall map of Iowa shows the western third of the state in deep purple hues while most of eastern Iowa is multiple shades lighter, in yellow and orange. Jeff Zogg, a hydrologist at the National Weather Service, says parts of water-logged western Iowa have seen 200-percent more rain than average since mid-April, while areas in the much-drier east are only at 50-percent.

“It’s been much wetter across the western part of the state than the eastern part of the state,” Zogg says. “You get near the Missouri River in western Iowa and rainfall totals over the past month have been twice the normal amount. On the other hand, you get to northeast Iowa, some location have half the normal amounts, so, quite the change across the state.”

While parts of southwest Wisconsin are experiencing near-drought conditions, Zogg does -not- think that’s likely here. “At this point, we’re not expecting drought conditions to materialize across the eastern part of the state,” Zogg says. “We’ve had some persistent wet weather across the western part of the state but we’re seeing an evolution in the weather pattern, especially for the next month or so. It looks like wet weather will be overspreading more of the state. The wetness won’t be confined just to western Iowa.”

Compared to last week, the week ahead is expected to bring big changes in the forecast with warmer temperatures and the likelihood for multiple showers and the potential for heavy rain and severe weather.

Red Oak Police arrested a Shenandoah man Sunday evening on charges of Driving While Suspended, and Possession of a Controlled Substance/Marijuana. 34-year old Tommy Alan Coodey was brought to the Montgomery County Jail and held on a $1,000 cash bond.
