Blockton woman arrested for probation violation

The Union County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest Monday afternoon of 29-year old Modanna Marie Meyer, of Blockton. Meyer was arrested on a Union County warrant for probation violation. She was brought to the Ringgold County Jail and held without bond, pending an appearance before a magistrate.

255th St. in Audubon County closed in the 2300 block

Audubon County Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Jensen says the Audubon County Engineer’s office has informed him that a section of 255th St was closed for safety reasons, due to the undermining of a culvert. The closure is in the 2300 block of 255th, a 1.5-mile section of road between Mockingbird and Oriole Avenues. Repair work on the road is expected to last approximately two weeks.

Emergency responders and persons who would normally traverse the road in that section of Audubon County, should plan to take alternate routes for the next couple of weeks. If you have any questions, please call the Audubon County Engineer’s Office at 712-563-4286. 255th

Iowa child sex trial delayed for former Nebraska jail worker

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) – An Iowa trial for a former Nebraska jail employee facing child sex and pornography charges has been delayed. The Daily Nonpareil reports that the Council Bluffs trial of Shawn Beu has been rescheduled to begin Oct. 18 at the request of prosecution and defense attorneys. The trial was supposed to begin Tuesday.

Beu has pleaded not guilty to Iowa charges of sexual abuse, sexual exploitation of a minor, and related crimes. He’s also been charged in federal court with child pornography possession. Beu, who lives in Council Bluffs, was a corrections sergeant at the Douglas County Jail in Omaha when he was arrested in March.

Afton woman arrested on drug charge in Creston

Creston Police report the arrest at around 2:30-this (Wednesday) morning, of a woman from Afton, on a drug charge. 21-year old Ashly Starlin was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance/1st offense, and OWI. Starlin was later released from the Union County Jail on $1,000 bond.

Tuesday night, Creston Police arrested 20-year old Dominick Yzaguirre, of Lenox, for 5th Degree Theft. The man was later released from the Union County Jail on a Promise to Appear in court. And, Monday night, 39-year old Jason Joyce, of Crane, MO., was arrested on an Adams County Warrant for Contempt of Court on a Violation of a Protection Order. Joyce was later released on bond.

Hunter Safety education Online Field Day

The Shelby County Conservation Board is sponsoring a Hunter Safety Education Online Field Day, Sept. 3rd, from 8-a.m. until Noon, at the Nishna Bend Recreation Area. Registration is required, by going to www.iowadnr.gov/huntered. Persons born after Jan. 1st, 1972 must complete a hunter safety education course, in order to obtain an Iowa Hunting license. You must be at least 12 years old to take the class.IA DNR Outdoor logo

Participants in the Hunter Safety Education Online Field Day must complete the online class (at the web site mentioned), before coming to the field day at Nishna Bend, and you must bring your online completion voucher in order to be admitted to the Field Day course. The Nishna Bend Rec Area is located 1.5-miles southeast of the Harlan Municipal Airport.

IL man struck by a truck on Hwy 2 in southern IA

A pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck Tuesday night while walking along a southern Iowa highway. The Iowa State Patrol reports 39-year old Daniel Warlop, of Rockford, IL., was flown by helicopter to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines following the accident that happened at around 11:25-p.m.  on Highway 2, in Decatur County.

Authorities say Warlop was walking west on the Highway, when for reasons unknowm he fell onto the road. Moments later he was unavoidably hit by a westbound 2014 Chevy Silverado pickup, driven by 39-year old Michael Sobotka, of Tingley.

The accident remains under investigation.

Iowa man fatally shot wife and then himself, authorities say

PACKWOOD, Iowa (AP) – Authorities say an ailing man fatally shot himself after killing his wife at their home in southeast Iowa. The Jefferson County attorney’s office said in a news release Tuesday that 79-year-old Franklin Neff had called family and friends Monday, telling them he’d killed his wife, 75-year-old Enola Neff, and was going to shoot himself at their home in Packwood. Arriving deputies found that Enola Neff had died and that Franklin Neff had a head wound likely inflicted by a handgun found next to him. Authorities say he died later Monday.

Deputies discovered a note from Franklin Neff that indicated he and his wife had health issues and that he didn’t want them to be a burden on their family. Packwood is a town of about 200 people in Jefferson County.

Clarinda man arrested on drug & alcohol charges

Red Oak Police, Tuesday evening, arrested a Clarinda man on drug, alcohol and other charges, following a traffic stop. 36-year old Michael Wayne England, II, was arrested at around 5-p.m. for Driving While Suspended, Unlawful possession of prescription pills, and open container of alcohol as a driver. England was also cited for failure to hold valid insurance. He was brought to the Montgomery County Jail and held on a $1,000 cash bond.
