Montgomery County Auditor Stephanie Burke is issuing a reminder today to patrons of the Red Oak Community School District: The deadline to pre-register to vote for the June 27th Special Red Oak School District Election, is this Friday, June 16th at 5-p.m. That applies to registration in-person, or by mail. After this Friday, you may register to vote at the Montgomery County Auditor’s Office and vote absentee ballot. The process is the same as for registering to vote on Election Day, and specific documentation must be provided. Burke says, if possible, please register before Election Day.

The next deadline leading up to the Special Election, is 5-p.m. June 23rd, which is the last day to request an Absentee Ballot by mail. June 27th is Election Day. Patrons of the Red Oak School District may vote Absentee ballot IN-PERSON at the Auditor’s Office, from 8-until 11-a.m. that day.

Officials with the Creston Police Department say two people have been arrested on drug-related charges. 20-year old Brandon Barrett, of Creston, was arrested this (Tuesday) morning near the intersection of Sumner/Townline Road, for Possession of Marijuana with the intent to deliver. His bond was set at $5,000.

And, Monday afternoon, 28-year old Tara Mickael, of Creston, was arrested at a residence on N. Elm Street, on a Union County warrant for Violation of Probation on an original charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance. She was being held in the Ringgold County Jail while awaiting a bond hearing.

A head-on crash at around 6-p.m. Monday southeast of Council Bluffs resulted in one person dead and two others seriously injured. According to media reports in Omaha, the crash happened near the intersection of Wabash Avenue and Woodland Trail.

No other details are currently available.

The Adair County Historical Society Eighth Annual Heritage Tractor Ride is set to take place Saturday, July 8th. Organizers say this year’s ride will be “For the Fun of it” and will start with breakfast at the Heritage Center on the west edge of Greenfield, at 7 a.m. Tractors will depart at 8 a.m., and head across country to Casey, taking in the fun of a good old-fashioned drive on little-traveled country roads.

They will arrive in Casey for a short break before driving through the Casey Fun Days Parade. From there they will travel to Adair for lunch in the Adair City Park. Riders and the public can purchase lunch at the Adair Lion’s Club Snack Shack. Folks are encouraged to join the riders on the noon break to view the tractors and support the Lions.

Riders can register in advance by picking up a form at various locations in the community, or they can register the morning of the ride. Registration fee is $10 and includes breakfast. Contact the Historical Society at 641-743-2232 for more information.

LENOX, Iowa (KJAN) – (Corrects earlier post to show Smith was on the UTV, also) An adult female died and two children were injured during a near head-on crash Monday evening between a pickup truck and a UTV, east of Lenox. The Iowa State Patrol says a passenger on the UTV, 60-year old Denise C. Smith, of Lenox, died in the crash. The children, 10-year old Braxston and 9-year old Justyce Bradley, both of Prescott, who were on the UTV, were injured. Justyce was flown to a hospital in Des Moines, while Braxston was taken to the hospital in Creston. The accident, which happened at the crest of a hill, remains under investigation.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Prosecutors will ask for 25 years in prison for a lottery computer programmer who’s admitting to rigging jackpots in multiple states. A plea agreement released Monday shows former Multi-State Lottery Association security director Eddie Tipton has agreed to plead guilty to felony charges in Iowa and Wisconsin. The document calls for Tipton and his brother to pay back a total of $3 million in lottery winnings that were linked to rigged drawings in Colorado, Oklahoma, Wisconsin and Kansas

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa’s insurance commissioner is proposing a plan he thinks could keep Iowa from becoming the first state to lose all of its health care insurance carriers offering policies on the Affordable Care Act exchange next year. Doug Ommen says he traveled to Washington last week with officials from two major Iowa insurance carriers to pitch a proposal to federal officials that would save the Iowa market from collapsing.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa woman charged with voting twice for Donald Trump last fall is back in jail after pleading guilty to yelling epithets at a neighbor. Terri Rote of Des Moines pleaded guilty Monday to disorderly conduct, one day after she was arrested and jailed following a dispute over her property line. She’s awaiting trial on election misconduct charges.

MONTROSE, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a deputy responding to a burglary call has shot a man in southeast Iowa. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says the shooting occurred early Monday in rural Montrose. The division says Lee County deputies had been sent just after midnight to check on a report about a burglary in progress. Authorities say 29-year-old Joshua V. Welborn, of Montrose, was shot by Lee County deputy Dakota Foley. Welborn remained in a hospital Monday afternoon and was expected to survive.

One person died and two children were injured during a collision Monday evening between a pickup and a UTV, in Taylor County. The Iowa State Patrol says a passenger on the UTV, 60-year old Denise Cynthia Smith, of Lenox, died at the scene.

Her grandchildren, 10-year old Braxston and 9-year old Justyce Bradley, both of Prescott, were injured. Braxton Bradley was transported by Taylor County Ambulance to the Greater Regional Community Hospital in Creston, while Justyce Bradley was flown by LifeFlight helicopter, to Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines.

The Patrol says a 2010 Ford pickup driven by 19-year old Zachary Edward Marxen, of Lenox, and a 2016 Cub Cadet Challenger UTV driven by Braxton Bradley, and occupied by Smith and Justyce Bradley, collided nearly head-on over the crest of a hill at around 6:50-p.m., one mile north of Taylor County Road J-13, on Yellowstone Avenue, or about three-miles east of Lenox.

The pickup entered the east ditch after the impact, while the UTV came to rest on the road. The accident remains under investigation.

Police in Hamburg, Monday night, arrested a man following an investigation into a disturbance at the Hamburg City Park. 18-year old Jeremy Rhoades, of Hamburg, was taken into custody for Assault Causing Bodily Injury and Criminal Mischief 4th Degree. Rhoades was being held without bail at the Fremont County Jail.

His arrest followed Rhoades’ call to Police at around 9:22-p.m., Monday, about several juveniles were trying to fight him and his girlfriend.  Rhoades reported the other parties left the area prior to law enforcement arrival. While deputies were investigating the disturbance, they were called back to the location by another caller, who advised Rhoades damaged their vehicle and assaulted them.

Deputies determined Rhoades struck the caller’s vehicle with his own vehicle, and then began striking the side of the vehicle with an unknown object, causing damage.  Rhoades then struck the caller, causing injury. It was determined the victim was not involved in the first disturbance. The original disturbance is still under investigation.

The Mills County Sheriff’s Office says three people were transported to the hospital following two separate accidents last week. 36-year old Donovan Hankins, of Tabor, was taken to UNMC in Omaha by LifeNet helicopter, following an ATV accident a little after 9-p.m., Friday. Authorities say the accident happened near Highway 275 and Rains Avenue, when Hankins lost control of the ATV he was operating, causing the machine to slide into a ditch and rolled over. He suffered serious injuries to his ribs, back and neck.

The other accident happened at around 6:40-a.m. Wednesday, on Highway 34 near 188th Street. A vehicle driven by 55-year old Gaylord Augustine, of Henderson, was traveling west on Highway 34 when he began to slow prior to turning onto 188th Street. 30-year old Brett Sheppard, of Emerson, was traveling in a vehicle behind Augustine’s 2012 Dodge, when he failed to notice Augustine was slowing. His 2014 Chevy rear-ended the Dodge, causing unknown/possible injuries to both drivers. Sheppard was transported by Glenwood Rescue to Jenny Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, while Augustine was taken by Glenwood Rescue to Mercy Hospital.

The Mills County Sheriff’s Office, Monday, reported nine people were arrested over the past week, including three who were arrested on drug charges. Officials say 23-year old Amber Nicole Ross, of Council Bluffs, and 28-year old Jamison Matthew Ney, of Omaha, were arrested Friday night on charges that include Possession of a Controlled Substance and Interference with Official Acts. Ross faces an additional Possession of Drug Paraphernalia charge, plus she had a warrant out for her arrest from Pottawattamie County. Her bond was set at $2,600. Ney’s bond was set at $1,300. Both were arrested at around 9-p.m. Friday, following a traffic stop at Kidd Road and Highway 34.

Saturday morning, 29-year old William Philip Smith II, of Shenandoah, was arrested near Ingrum Avenue and Highway 34 in Mills County. He was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. His bond was set at $1,300.

Others arrested in Mills County include: On June 6th – 23 year old Shawna Marrie Watson, of Glenwood, on a Council Bluffs warrant for Failure to Appear in court., and 41 year old Nickie Marrie Kott, of Glenwood, for Failure to Have SR-22 Insurance; On June 11th – 23 year old Ozzy Ray Hunter, of Red Oak, was arrested in Malvern, for Driving While Barred.

And on Monday, June 12th, Mills County Deputies arrested 21-year old David Gene Barrett, of Glenwood, and 43-year old Jerry Lee Dawson, of Hastings, on warrants for Probation Violation. Barrett was taken into custody at the Mills County Jail. Dawson was arrested at the Montgomery County Jail. And, 32-year old Justine Banks, of Glenwood, was arrested on a warrant out of Pott. County.
