DES MOINES – Today Gov. Kim Reynolds announced the signing of a disaster proclamation for Kossuth County, Iowa effective immediately through December 6, 2023. The USDA has confirmed a positive case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a game bird breeding flock there.

This proclamation allows state resources from Iowa Homeland Security, the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, and other agencies to assist with tracking and monitoring, rapid detection, containment, disposal, and disinfection. The proclamation also waives regulatory provisions related to commercial vehicles responding to affected sites.

The recent HPAI detections in birds do not present an immediate public health concern, and it remains safe to eat poultry products. If producers suspect signs of HPAI in their flocks, they should contact their veterinarian immediately.

(Sac City, Iowa) – Officials with the Sac County Attorney’s Office report a man from Lytton was sentenced Monday to four consecutive 10-year prison sentences, after being convicted on four Class-C felony counts of Lascivious Acts with a Minor. According to the report, the victim of Antonio Pharms was under the age of 14 when the offenses were committed.

Pharms was ordered by District Court Judge Derek Johnson, to immediately begin serving his sentences, the maximum allowed by law. He was also be placed on the Iowa Sex Offender Registry for the remainder of his life.

The crime was investigated by the Sac County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Sac County Attorney Ben Smith.

(Red Oak, Iowa) – Officials with the Red Oak Police Department report the arrest at around 11-a.m. Tuesday, of  a man wanted on a Red Oak P-D warrant for 5th Degree Theft.  32-year-old Cody Robert Cunningham, of Grandview, MO., was taken to the Montgomery County Jail and held on $300 cash bond.
