Boil Advisory lifted in Glenwood

News

April 13th, 2019 by Ric Hanson

GLENWOOD, Iowa – The Boil Advisory in place for the city of Glenwood for nearly the past month has now been lifted following extensive work and testing to the treatment plant.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources working with Glenwood city officials and Iowa Rural Water Association (IRWA) have collected and analyzed water in the city’s treatment system. Samples collected throughout the community and within all four schools indicate the water is safe to drink. The entire water treatment system has been flushed, as well, lifting the release of the boil advisory for the city of Glenwood.

Please be advised that the boil water advisory remains in effect for the Glenwood Resource Center. The Glenwood Resource Center will begin flushing its system on Monday. The newly produced water will be traced through that system as well. Bacteria samples will be collected within the Glenwood Resource Center once it is confirmed that the water has turned over. When the samples indicate the water is safe, the boil advisory for the Glenwood Resource Center will be lifted.

The DNR is very appreciative of the extremely hard work and dedication demonstrated by the City of Glenwood officials and IRWA during the last four weeks while assisting to get the city’s water treatment system back online after the flooding shut down the plant.

The DNR and city officials also wish to extend appreciation to the residents of Glenwood for their patience and for conserving water during the boil advisory as officials worked diligently to get the system back online.

Winning tickets have to be cashed in one year from the date of purchase, and whoever bought the ticket at the Casey’s in Nevada on April 11th 2018 did not bring it to Lottery Headquarters for the payoff.

Iowa Lottery spokesperson Mary Neubauer, said earlier this week it would be a first to have a six-figure prize go unclaimed. “To the best of our knowledge, this has never happened before.”

Federal government releases Iowa emergency road repair money

News

April 12th, 2019 by Ric Hanson

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The U.S. Department of Transportation says Iowa may make immediate use of $9 million in Federal Highway Administration emergency relief funds to repair roads damaged by flooding. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao announced the emergency grant on Friday.

The money can be used to begin short-term repairs while further damage assessment for long-term repairs takes place. The money is allocated for federally eligible highways and bridges damaged by natural disasters or catastrophic events

U.S. Sen. Charles Grassley says the money will help get roads reopened in southwest Iowa. Heavy rain and rapid snowmelt in March resulted in widespread flooding that closed many primary and secondary routes as well as interstate routes.

Damaged federal-aid routes include Interstate 29, Interstate 680 and U.S. Highway 34.
