(Creston, Iowa) – The Creston Police Department says a resident in the 500 block of W. Adams Street reported Friday evening, that someone stole a custom-made sign out of his yard. The sign had been made a couple of days prior to the theft. The loss was estimated at $60.

(Red Oak, Iowa) – Voters in Montgomery County will be receiving postcards in the mail this week, ahead of the General Election scheduled for November 08, 2022. Montgomery County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections, Jill Ozuna, said the cards will be sent from the Iowa Secretary of State to update voters on their polling locations. As a reminder: The polling locations for voters living in Precinct 2 will be at the Red Oak Gold Fair Building. The polling location for voters living in Precinct 5 will be at the Elliott Community Building.

Auditor Ozuna reminds the voters that there is absentee voting in the Auditor’s office. “Absentee ballots will be available on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at the Auditor’s office and may be voted in the office until 5:00 p.m., Monday, November 7.” The Auditor’s office will also be open Saturday, November 5, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Red Oak Police Department reports a traffic stop early this (Monday) morning, resulted in the arrest of a woman for having no valid driver’s license. Authorities say 46-year-old Lisa Marie Elliott was taken into custody at around 3:10-a.m. in the 100 block of W. Coolbaugh Street. She was transported to the Montgomery County Jail and held on bond amounting to slightly more than $503.

(Red Oak, Iowa) – A traffic stop Sunday night in Red Oak resulted in the arrest of a man on multiple drug charges. Red Oak Police report 32-year-old Kiley Brian Caron, of Red Oak, was arrested for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Poss. of a Controlled Substance/3rd offense, and Unlawful Possession of Prescription Drugs. Caron was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $5,000 bond. The Montgomery County K9 Unit and K9 “Bane” assisted in the arrest.

(Corning, Iowa) – Sheriff’s officials in Adams County report numerous arrests took place over the past couple of weeks. On Sunday (10/16), Deputies responded to a Domestic Violence call in the 600 block of 5th Street, in Prescott. Upon further investigation, 42-year-old Dustin Kilgore, of Prescott, was arrested for Domestic Violence/2nd offense. He was being held without bond in  the Adams County Jail.

On Oct. 11th, 50-year-old Robert Gard, of Corning, was arrested for a second day in a row on a charge of Driving while license Revoked. He later posted bond. And, 47-year-old Jeanakay Gray, of Corning, was arrested for Driving While License Suspended. She also posted bond.

On the 9th of October, 62-year-old Ricardo Avila, of Carbon, was arrested for Driving While License Suspended. Avila was released from the scene with a citation.

On Oct. 7th, Adams County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 28-year-old Joshua Ghale, of Fontanelle, for OWI/1st offense. He was also cited for numerous other violations. During the same traffic stop, 32-year-old Jason Sparks, also of Fontanelle, was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance/Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Both men later posted bond.

And, on Oct. 3rd, 18-year-old Kiaraliz Rosario, of Creston, was arrested for Poss. of a Controlled Substance/Marijuana, and Poss. of Paraphernalia. She was being held in the Adams County Jail on $1,300 bond.

A traffic stop Sunday at the intersection Highway 34 and 71 in Montgomery County, resulted in a man being arrested. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reports 25-year-old Alex Francisco Flores, of Cedar Rapids was taken into custody for OWI/1st offense, Possession of Marijuana/1st offense, and Poss. of Drug Paraphernalia. He was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on $1,000 bond.

(Radio Iowa) – Democratic Congresswoman Cindy Axne says her Republican opponent and the G-O-P leader in the U.S. House are trying to avoid revealing their plans to pass abortion restrictions. Last week, House G-O-P leader Kevin McCarthy and third district G-O-P candidate Zach Nunn said this summer’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling has pushed decisions about abortion policy down to states. Axne says dozens of House Republicans have already proposed bills to restrict abortions.

“There’s nothing that we can trust coming out of Leader McCarthy’s mouth or Zach Nunn’s mouth when it comes to defending women’s reproductive health,” Axne says. Nunn has said it’s a state issue and Iowans need to have their voices heard. “I think the court’s been very clear here,” Nunn said. “Under the 10th Amendment, this is back to the states.” Axne points to polling that shows opposition to abortion restrictions in Iowa has increased since the court decision.

“If they really want, and I think my opponent said, ‘a conversation with Iowans,’ put it on the ballot,” Axne said. “I can tell you one thing — they’re going to get the same result they got in Kansas.” In August, Kansas voters rejected an amendment that would have said there was no right to an abortion under the Kansas constitution. While competing in a primary debate against two other Republicans this spring, Nunn raised his hand in support of a statement that all abortions should be illegal across the country.

In a debate with Axne this fall, Nunn emphasized his vote as a state legislator for a six-week abortion ban in Iowa, with exceptions in cases of rape, incest, fetal abnormality or to save the life of the mother.

(Creston, Iowa) – The Union County Sheriff’s Office reports two separate accidents occurred over the past couple of days, with one resulting in minor injuries. Authorities say at around 6:30-a.m., Sunday, a 2005 Chevy Impala driven by 26-year-old Sabastian W. Peterson, of Creston, was traveling west on Highway 34, when it came into contact with and struck, an animal. The car sustained functional damage amount to $2,000. Peterson drove himself to the Greater Regional Hospital in Creston, for treatment of head and neck pain.

The other accident in Union County happened at around 3:45-p.m. Friday, as 16-year-old Jesse Dean Miller, of Creston, was driving a 2000 Ford F-250 pickup eastbound on a narrow dirt road (Adair-Union Street) , when he met a semi tractor-trailer. Miller drove into a ditch to avoid hitting the semi. The sheriff’s report noted there were no signs of the semi, and that the pickup had just recently been purchased.

The vehicle sustained $2,500 damage. Miller was not hurt. No citations were issued.

(Council Bluffs, Iowa) – Officials with the Council Bluffs Police Department report 16-year-old male faced a charge of Making Threats, following an incident that occurred Sunday within the Council Bluffs city limits. Authorities said that Council Bluffs police officers were made aware of a video that was being shared by some students of Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln High School. The video showed the teen making a reference to bringing a gun to school.

Officers were able to identify and locate the student. Further investigation revealed that the student was in possession of an Airsoft gun and does not have access to any actual firearms, and it was quickly determined that there was there was not a credible threat.

Regardless, the student was charged with Making Threats and was referred to Juvenile Court.

(Radio Iowa) – A Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll released this weekend shows Republican Senator Chuck Grassley with a three percent lead over Democratic challenger Mike Franken. The poll of likely voters was taken from October 9th through the 12th. Forty-six percent of those surveyed said they supported Grassley. Forty-three percent said they supported Franken. Seven percent said they were undecided or plan to skip voting on the U.S. Senate race.

Franken was still unknown to about a third of those surveyed and nearly two-thirds said Grassley’s age was a concern. That includes 37 percent of the Republicans questioned, who said they’d vote for the 89 year old senator. Franken, on Twitter, said he’s in a virtual tie with Grassley.

The Iowa G-O-P’s chairman says the Iowa Poll has underestimated the strength of the new Republican coalition.
