Red Oak man arrested Sun. night for OWI

Authorities in Montgomery County arrested a Red Oak man late Sunday evening. Red Oak Police say 53-year old David Lawrence Howe was taken into custody at N. 1st and E. Elm Streets, on an OWI charge. He was also cited for Driving While Suspended. Howe was arrested at around 8:10-p.m. and brought to the Montgomery County Jail, where he was being held on $1,000 bond.

2 RAGBRAI riders from Wisconsin struck by car in Sioux City

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) – Authorities say two people participating in an annual bike ride across Iowa were struck and injured by an intoxicated driver. According to police, Bruce and Barbara Blair of Hudson, Wisconsin, were riding a tandem bike early Sunday morning as part of The Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa – or RAGBRAI- when they were struck by 36-year-old Charryse Chavez of Sioux City.

Police say Chavez ignored an officer controlling traffic at an intersection and drove through. Sioux City Police Sgt. Jim Cunningham said Chavez was arrested about block away. The victims were transported to a hospital, where Bruce Blair remains in stable condition. Barbara Blair was treated and released.

Chavez has been charged with a second offense of operating while intoxicated, failure to obey a police officer and having no insurance.

Royals recall RHP Pino from Triple-A Omaha

CHICAGO (AP) — The Kansas City Royals have recalled right-hander Yohan Pino from Triple-A Omaha and optioned reliever Brandon Finnegan to their top farm club. Finnegan pitched two scoreless innings and got the win when Kansas City beat the Chicago White Sox 7-6 in 13 innings on Saturday. The Royals used seven relievers in the victory, and manager Ned Yost wanted another fresh arm in the bullpen for the series finale on Sunday.

Finnegan, the 17th overall pick in the 2014 draft, is 3-0 with a 2.96 ERA in 14 games this year with Kansas City. Pino is 0-2 with a 3.26 ERA in seven appearances with the Royals this season.

 

Accidental shooting reported near Honey Creek

A teenager was transported to the hospital by helicopter following an accidental shooting late Sunday morning, in northwestern Pottawattamie County. The Omaha World-Herald says according to authorities, a 13-year-old boy suffered non-life threatening injuries during the accident that happened at around 11:45-a.m. in a wooded area by a creek, near a home just west of Honey Creek. The teen’s name was not released.

Sgt. Rob Ambrose with the Pott. County Sheriff’s Office, told the paper the boy and another 13-year-old boy were shooting in a rural area when one of the guns, a .22-caliber rifle, accidentally went off. One of the boys was hit in the lower torso. The two went to a nearby house and called 911.

TROY DEAN SHANNO, 47, of Kenyon, MN (& formerly of Oakland), died Sat., July 18th, at home. Funeral services for TROY SHANNO will be held 1-p.m. Sat., July 25th, at the Oakland United Methodist Church. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland has the arrangements.

Visitation with the family will be Friday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:30 PM at the Oakland United Methodist Church.

Interment will be at a later date.

His son – Caleb Shanno, of Dodge Center, MN

His parents – Richard and Joan Shanno, of Oakland.

Other relatives and friends.
