Police in Red Oak on foot patrol early this (Monday) morning, arrested one person on a drug charge. Officials say 23-year old Justin Lewis Marsden, of Red Oak, was arrested at around 3:30-a.m. in the 500 block of E. Washington Street, for Possession of Methamphetamine, with the Intent to Deliver. Marsden was being held in the Montgomery County Jail, on $5,000 bond.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) – Union Pacific is turning to social media to help keep people off railroad tracks. The railroad unveiled a new campaign last week about the dangers of railroad tracks. The short animated videos are designed to persuade photographers and high school seniors to refrain from taking pictures on or near train tracks.

The videos show a high school senior posing in the middle of a highway before getting hit by a truck. The videos are designed to be easily shared on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and other social media sites. Federal statistics show that more than 500 people were killed nationwide last year while walking or standing on railroad property.

Father’s Day turned tragic for a family whose father drowned trying to rescue his daughters as they were being pulled-in by the Missouri River current while wading and playing in the river Sunday afternoon. The Omaha World-Herald says the incident happened during a Father’s Day outing at NP Dodge Park, on the Nebraska side of the river, near Omaha.

31-year old Elias Salvador, of Omaha, jumped into the river to try to save his two daughters and two other children. The children were rescued by three fisherman and family members. They tried to save Salvador, but were unable to pull him from the river current’s grip.

Search and rescue teams from around Omaha and Pottawattamie County looked for Salvador’s body until and it was recovered by an Omaha Fire Department dive team just after 8-p.m., Sunday.

Police in Harlan were called to a location off of Industrial Parkway Sunday evening for a report of a gunshot victim. When they arrived shortly after 7:40-p.m., officers initially determined a man in his mid-to late 30’s had suffered an apparent, self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was conscious and breathing prior to medics arriving on the scene, according to dispatch reports. The man was transported to Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan.

No other information is currently available.

The Adair County Sheriff’s Office reports a man from Atlantic and a woman from Greenfield were arrested on separate drug charges over past few days. 26-year old Marshall Brandon Fischer, of Atlantic, was arrested just before 5-a.m. Friday in Greenfield, on charges that include Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (a pipe allegedly used to smoke meth), Possession of a Controlled Substance/2nd offense – Meth, and Driving While Barred. Fischer, who had a previous conviction on a meth charge in 2014 in Cass County, was being held in the Adair County Jail on $2,000 bond.

And, at around 3:40-p.m. Thursday, 48-year old Kristina Marie Merical, of Greenfield, was arrested on charges that include: Possession of a Controlled Substance/Marijuana – 1st offense; Possession of a Controlled Substance/Methamphetamine – 3rd or subsequent offense; two counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia; A Prescription Drug Violation, and, Theft in the 3rd Degree (for allegedly taking property valued at more than $500, but less than $1,000).

Merical was released from the Adair County Jail Friday evening, on $5,000 bond.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio Governor John Kasich is hitting the road again later this week. The Republican will be making his first trip to Iowa since he began exploring whether to enter the race for the GOP presidential nomination. Kasich has yet to officially announce his decision on the 2016 presidential race. Kasich’s trip to Iowa on Wednesday will have him making several stops in Des Moines and Council Bluffs.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Data show motorists in Iowa’s largest cities don’t often appeal citations from traffic enforcement cameras. The Des Moines Register reports just 2.7 percent of motorists in Cedar Rapids, Council Bluffs, Des Moines and Sioux City appeal such citations. The city of Davenport doesn’t track the information and officials in Muscatine didn’t provide the data.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a 27-year-old man was stabbed to death after a fight broke out at a party in Des Moines. Police say officers responded to a 911 early Sunday and found the 27-year-old man along with 23-year-old person. Both had stab wounds and were taken to a Des Moines hospital. The 27-year-old man later died from his injuries.
