Clarinda Police report that on Monday, August 24th at approximately 8:30 p.m. officers arrested 44-year-old Julie Kay Hillhouse of Clarinda on a valid warrant. The warrant alleged that Hillhouse committed six felony counts of forgery and theft at various businesses in Clarinda during the early part of August.
The warrant was issued after an investigation into the fraudulent activities. Hillhouse was arrested at her apartment located at the Parkview Apartment Complex, 1001 E. Main Street in Clarinda without incident. Hillhouse was booked into the Page County Jail on $5,000 bail pending an initial appearance before a magistrate.
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) – A 54-year-old Iowa man has been convicted in the April 2013 death of a woman he shot nearly two years earlier.
A Pottawattamie County jury found Craig Finney guilty on Tuesday of second-degree murder.
He was convicted of shooting 48-year-old Patricia Harker, his former girlfriend, on June 17, 2011, during an incident at Harker’s home in Minden. She survived, and Finney later pleaded guilty to attempted murder. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Harker died on April 25, 2013. Prosecutors then filed first-degree murder charges against Finney, saying Harker died from complications caused by the gunshot wound.
The jury convicted Finney on the lesser charge of second-degree murder. He faces up to 50 years in prison when he’s sentenced on Oct. 6.

The Audubon County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest on Tuesday, August 25th of 30-year-old Adam Richard Graves of Audubon. Graves was arrested around 8:30pm and charged with Interference with Official Acts and Resisting Arrest. The charges stem from an incident at Graves residence in Audubon. He was taken to the Audubon County Jail and held. The Audubon Police Department assisted in the arrest.
The Creston Police Department reports two arrests on Tuesday, August 25th.
At 11:12am 44-year-old Manuel Silva of Creston was arrested at the Law Enforcement Center on a Union County Warrant for 2 counts of Sexual Abuse 3rd Degree. He was released from the Union County Jail on a $20,000 bond.
At 6:05pm Tuesday 42-year-old Anthony Gross of Creston was arrested at 200 South Elm Street and charged with Public Intoxication 2nd Offense. He is being held in the Union County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

Members of the public and media gathered at the Atlantic High School Auditorium last night for a candidate forum of potential school board members in the upcoming elections.
7 candidates running for three open spots on the Atlantic School Board answered a number of questions from a media panel and the public. The seven candidates are: Doug Bierbaum, Alison Bruckner, Bob Drogo, Mark Foegen, Dennis Schwanke, Dr. Keith Swanson, and Jenny Williams.
Atlantic Junior Tori Krogh was part of the media panel at the event reporting for the school newspaper and is Secretary of the Student Council. She said it was a great opportunity to hear more about the candidates and their ideas. She also said she does see the impact of the concerns brought up by the public at the forum and encouraged students to get involved and make an impact as well.
