The Superintendent of the Glenwood Community School District has confirmed a shooting that left three people injured Sunday night involved Glenwood High School Principal Richard Hutchinson and his family. Superintendent Devin Embray said Hutchinson was still in the hospital this (Monday) morning, but it’s not clear if Hutchinson was the person shot.
The Mills County Attorney’s Office said the incident was reported at around 5:45-p.m., Sunday, with calls about a physical altercation and possible gunshot involving several individuals. Glenwood Police, the Iowa State Patrol and Mills County Sheriff’s deputies along with emergency medical personnel responded to the scene on Third Street, between Hazel and Myrtle Streets.
The Attorney’s Office said “Upon arrival, the scene was secured, along with one firearm, and medical personnel were able to render aid. Three individuals were transported by rescue to area hospitals for treatment. The matter remains under investigation by the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigations and Glenwood Police Department.”
In a statement, Superintendent Devin Embray said “This was a very sad and unfortunate event. We are in shock and disbelief and we are letting law enforcement handle the situation and guide us through this.”
