Update: Hwy 92 pavement blow-up

News

July 24th, 2015 by Ric Hanson

Maintenance crews with the Iowa Dept. of Transportation have been dispatched to a pavement blow-up five-miles west of Massena. District 4 Transportation Coordinator Scott Suhr based in Atlantic, told KJAN News the incident was reported at around 7:30-p.m., Friday on Highway 92, near the intersection with 720th Street.

Suhr said crews were paving in the area and moisture in the slab caused a pavement blow-up. He said anytime there is moisture underneath a concrete slab and hot temperatures, which was the case Friday, a steam effect is created, which causes pavement to rise.

If you are traveling Highway 92 tonight west of Massena, be prepared to encounter road crews working to repair the area of the pavement blow-up.
