Two men from Illinois were injured when their motorcycles collided as they were riding westbound on Interstate 80 Friday, in Pottawattamie County. The Omaha World-Herald reports the men were among a group of six motorcyclists riding together, when one of the cycles hit the rear of another cycle, as that machine had begun to slow down. The accident happened at around 6:45 p.m.

The Iowa State Patrol says 63-year old David Schoth, of Chapin, Illinois, was thrown to the roadway when his 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle was hit. He was taken by helicopter to Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha. The patrol did not describe his injuries or release his condition. The condition of the other injured man, 61-year old William Ott,  of Middelton, Illinois, was also not clear. He crashed his 2013 Harley Davidson trike into a ditch after the collision.

C.Bluffs woman suffers critical injuries in NE crash

News

A 25-year-old woman from Council Bluffs was critically injured early Friday in a one-vehicle rollover accident near North 108th and Blondo Streets in Omaha. The Daily NonPareil reports Kyleigh Parrish, who was taken to Nebraska Medical Center, suffered life-threatening head injuries in the 2:30 a.m. crash four blocks south of Blondo at Charles Street.

The police investigation determined a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by Parrish was southbound on 108th at a high rate of speed as it approached the Charles Street intersection. Just before Charles Street, police said, the pickup crossed into the northbound lane of 108th Street, left the roadway on the east side and struck a wooden power pole. After hitting the power pole, the pickup rolled several times and Parrish was ejected from the truck.

Reports to Douglas County emergency 911 dispatchers indicated that Parrish was thrown about 10 to 15 feet from her vehicle when it rolled. Police said a tire that was ripped off Parrish’s truck after it struck the power pole hit a Dodge pickup truck that was following her Chevy.

Authorities said speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Guided tours around the state fairgrounds will be available when the 2015 State Fair begins August 13th. Museums often offer audio tours and now anyone with a smart phone will be able to plug into one of four different audio tours of the Iowa State Fair. “Everyone has their favorites that they visit at the Iowa State Fair and we are challenging people in 2015 to take a tour and find a new path,” says Mindy Williamson, the marketing director for the State Fair.

Each tour has six stops. One is all about the animals on the fairgrounds. Another is a tour for “foodies” who want to sample some of the fair’s gastronomic offerings. “And then we have a special one called ‘Nooks and Crannies’ which are little-known places on our fairgrounds,” Williamson says, “some places for you to stop and see.” The fourth tour highlights the free entertainment available during the fair.

The State Fair has been held at its current location in Des Moines since 1886. The site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
