DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — Police say a man has killed himself outside an eastern Iowa business. The incident happened shortly after officers responded to shots fired at another location where two people received minor injuries. Bettendorf police says the man had been standing in the parking lot of a business when he saw officers and fired one round into his head.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa-based company that mixes and transports chemicals for customers in the printing, coating, and cleaning industries has agreed to pay $1.1 million to settle federal environmental violations in Iowa, Kansas and Wisconsin. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says Barton Solvents agreed to changes to correct found hazardous-waste storage and spill-prevention regulation violations.
SHELLSBURG, Iowa (AP) — Iowa authorities are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found near a stolen truck that had crashed north of Shellsburg. The truck was stolen Sunday in Benton County. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Benton County Sheriff’s Office identified the woman as Sabrina Christine Hustad.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — An education task force says Iowa’s system for offering skilled labor training can be improved with more focused coursework offerings and additional collaboration. The Secondary Career and Technical Education Task Force says all Iowa students should be offered coursework on career and technical education beginning in the seventh grade. Career and technical education prepares Iowans for vocational work that requires more than a high school diploma.
