Sausage Brunch Braid (9-29-2015)

Mom's Tips

September 29th, 2015 by Jim Field

  • 12 oz. bulk pork sausage
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped celery
  • 1/4 cup chopped green pepper
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 package (3 oz.) cream cheese, cubed
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onion tops
  • 2 tablespoons minced fresh parsley
  • 1 tube (8 oz.) refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten

In a skillet over medium heat, cook sausage, onion, celery, green pepper and garlic until meat is no longer pink and vegetables are tender; drain.  Add cream cheese, green onion and parsley.  Cook and stir over low heat until cheese is melted; set aside.

Unroll crescent dough on a greased baking sheet; press perforations together.  Roll into a 12″ x 10″ rectangle.  Spoon sausage mixture to within three inches of long sies and one inch of ends.  On each long side, cut 3/4″ wide strips three inches into center.  Starting at an angle, forming a braid.

Brush dough with egg.  Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.  Store leftovers in the refrigerator.

YIELD:  8-10 servings.

News

September 29th, 2015 by Ric Hanson

A traffic stop for a vehicle with expired license tags resulted in the arrest of a man and woman from Cass County on drug charges. The Daily NonPareil says 32-year old Randi Shafer and 32-year old Jacob Leary, both of Atlantic, were taken into custody at around 12:45-p.m. Sunday, after the car they were in was pulled over by a Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s deputy near the intersection of Highway 6 and 470th Street, near Oakland.

According to the police report, during the course of the stop, officers found 16.1 grams of methamphetamine as well as four syringes, which were classified as drug paraphernalia. Shafer and Leary were arrested on a felony suspicion of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, charge, and possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted on the felony charges, Shafer and Leary face up to 25 years in prison and fines amounting to $50,000.

Sunday’s arrest was the third in two months for Leary, who was arrested in Cass County on felony drug charges on Aug. 4th, and burglary and theft charges on Sept. 12th. Before Sunday’s arrest, Leary was scheduled to appear in a Cass County courthouse for a pre-trial hearing on a felony charge of possession of less than five grams a controlled substance (methamphetamines) within 1,000 feet of a park or school. If convicted of the Class C felony, Leary could face up to 10 years in prison. Court records show Leary was released after paying $3,000 of his $30,000 bond.
