Today: Isolated sprinkles thru 9-am; A chance of light rain this afternoon, otherwise Cloudy, with a high near 63. East northeast wind 5 to 15 mph.
Tonight: Cloudy w/a 70% chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm, especially after midnight. Low around 57. E/SE wind 10 to 15mph, with gusts as high as 20.
Friday: An 80% chance of showers & thunderstorms. High near 68. SE @ 15-25.
Friday Night: Mostly cloudy w/a 30% chance of showers through midnight. Low around 48. S/SW winds 10-15mph becoming W/NW after midnight.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 64.
Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 68.

Wednesday’s High in Atlantic was 69. Our 24-hour Low ending at 7-a.m. today was 50. We received .10” (one-tenth of an inch) of rain the past 24-hours (.09 yesterday morning, .01 this morning). Last year on this date, our High was 70 and the Low was 50. The All-time Record High in Atlantic on Oct. 22nd was 87 in 1899. The All-Time record low was 15 in 1976. Sunrise today is at 7:40, and sunset tonight will take place at 6:29.

FOR SALE:  I have a two bedroom home with full finished basement at 1203 Maple. The buyer has backed out twice now and I am due to move the first of the month. I am keeping the sell price at $60,000 because I do not have the time now to do the painting and updating that I would have done if the buyer had not given me his word he really wanted. It comes with a washer and dryer The house is a mess since I have been in the process of packing. The house has a new furnace, new tilt out windows in all rooms except for second bedroom and electrical has been updated as well. Under the carpet is nice hardwood floor. The basement has just been painted and the bathroom was recently remodeled with new tub and surround, one car garage, next to the Y and middle school. Great location. The backyard had a nice patio and the driveway is new in the last 5years and has additional parking.I will not sell on contract or rent to own. This is a great buy for a starter home. Accident south of Atlantic, Wed. evening

An accident Wednesday evening south of Atlantic reportedly sent at least one person to the hospital. According to reports, the accident, which involved a semi hauling grain, and a car, occurred at around 6:15-p.m.

It’s believed three people were in the car, which ended-up in a ditch. Names and other details concerning the accident are likely to be released later today.

Red Oak man arrested on Theft charge

Police in Red Oak arrested a man early this (Thursday) morning. Officials say 34-year old Paul Earl Lemburg, II, of Red Oak, was taken into custody at a residence on W. Coolbaugh Street, at around 4:10-a.m., on a warrant for Theft in the 2nd Degree. Lemburg was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond.

Chiefs’ Charles has surgery to repair torn ACL

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles has had surgery to repair the torn ACL in his right knee, the first step toward what he hopes is a return to the field by the start of next season. The surgery was performed Tuesday by orthopedist Dr. James Andrews.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Wednesday that everything went according to plan and that “all reports are good.” Charles also posted a photo of him in the hospital on Instagram with a caption that read, “Surgery went well (and) now the road to recovery begins.”

Charles was hurt early in the third quarter of a loss to Chicago on Oct. 11. Charcandrick West and Knile Davis split the bulk of his carries last week in Minnesota.

Man arrested on drug charges in Fremont Co.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office reports a man was arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop late Wednesday  night. 40-year old Charles Frank Adkins, Jr., was pulled over in the 3400 block of Highway 2, at around 11:45-p.m.  Following an investigation by the Fremont County K9 unit, Adkins, Jr. was arrested on Possession of a Controlled Substance and OWI/1st offense, charges.

He was brought to the Fremont County Hail and held on $1,000 cash bond.

Red Oak man arrested on meth charge

A man from Red Oak was arrested Wednesday night for Delivery of a Controlled Substance/Methamphetamine. Police say 27-year old Jeremy Jon Thompson was taken into custody a little after 8-p.m. at the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Center, where he was being held on $50,000 cash bond.

JACK A. SIMONSEN, 82, of Branson, MO., died Oct. 17th, at Edmond, OK. Funeral services for JACK SIMONSEN will be held 11-a.m. Sat., Oct. 24th, at the Kessler Funeral Home, in Exira.

Friends may call at the funeral home, where the family visitation takes place from 5-unil 8-p.m. Friday, Oct. 23rd.

Burial will be in the Exira Cemetery.

His son – Jerry Simonsen, of Lenexa, KS.

ROBERT D. ASBERRY, 85, of Exira, died Wed. Oct. 21st, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services for ROBERT ASBERRY will be held 11:30-a.m. Mon., Oct. 26th, at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira.

Friends may call at the funeral home, where the family visitation takes place from 9:30-a.m. Monday, until the time of service at 11:30.

Burial will be in the Exira Cemetery, at a later date.
