CAM crushes Coon Rapids-Bayard in 50-6 win

Sports

September 15th, 2023 by Asa Lucas

(Anita) — The CAM Cougars looked dominant on their home field, in a 50-6 win against the Coon Rapids-Bayard Crusaders. Offensively it seemed the Cougar’s couldn’t be stopped almost amassing 400 yards.

The first score of the game from a close to 40-yard spring on the sideline from Austin Williams. Williams finished the night with 9 carries, 100 yards, and 1 touchdown. The next two scores were both from Chase Spieker to Jack Follman. From the pocket Spieker had an impressive night with 3 touchdown throws, 14-18 on completions, and 200 yards. After the consecutive touchdown grabs from Follman, the Cougars were now up 22-0.

Spieker’s legs also added to the deadly CAM offense, with 12 carries and 2 touchdowns. Spieker would then scramble into the endzone twice before the end of the half to make the lead 36-0.

At the start of the 3rd quarter the game followed the same tempo where CAM continued to score behind an impressive offensive line. Which gave Spieker time to sit in the pocket and find Collin Bower for over a 45-yard touchdown. The score now 44-0. Toward the end of the 3rd quarter Brody Paulsen took a handoff 27 yards for a score and added to the lead 50-0.

The Crusaders only points on the night came off a mis timed pitch scooped and scored by the Defense to add 6 to the board and avoid a shutout 50-6.

CAM Head Coach Barry Bower was proud of the effort his team put in throughout the game.

The resounding success at CAM this season is not giving Coach Bower any ego. He is focused on next Friday’s match up at Exira-EHK.

Coon Rapids-Bayard is at home next week facing Audubon.
