Legislators Host AHSTW FFA Members

(DES MOINES) – On Tuesday, Rep. Steve Holt (R-Denison) and Sen. Jason Schultz (R-Schleswig) hosted members of the AHSTW FFA chapter to the floor of the Iowa House of Representatives. The students met with legislators and toured the Capitol for FFA’s Day on the Hill.

Rollover accident in Harrison County Thu. morning

Authorities in Harrison County say a woman was critically injured during a rollover accident this (Thursday) morning. The Omaha World-Herald says Harrison County 911 emergency dispatchers reported that the accident occurred around 6:55 a.m. just south of Mondamin.The woman was taken by medical helicopter to Creighton University Medical Center. No other details are currently available.

 

Atlantic woman arrested on a felony warrant in Omaha Wed. morning

An Atlantic woman was arrested at a motel in Omaha Wednesday morning following an incident that caused injuries to an Omaha Police Officer and resulted in the arrest of two other people. KETV in Omaha reports the incident occurred at around 1:45-a.m. Wednesday, when authorities were trying to serve a felony warrant for 19-year old Selena Hansen, of Atlantic, who was staying at a hotel near 90th and Burt Streets.

When police arrived, officials saw other individuals in a Ford Explorer in the hotel parking lot. The SUV tried to leave, it struck an Omaha Police Department cruiser, causing an Officer to be injured. Authorities took the driver, 30-year old Misael Diaz,  into custody. Police found a defaced gun in the vehicle and determined the car had been stolen.

Investigators then located Hansen, and an additional suspect, 29-year old Andrew Clark, who also taken into custody. Police found an additional stolen gun in Hansen’s room. All three suspects face charges. Diaz was booked for theft over $1,500 of defaced firearm, felon is possession of a firearm, felony to avoid arrest and possession of a controlled substance.

Hansen was arrested for being a fugitive from justice, possession of a stolen firearm and prohibited person in possession of a firearm. Clark was booked for possession of a stolen firearm, felon in possession of a firearm and bond review.

Potential winter storm still on track to impact Iowa

The National Weather Service said on its social media page today (Thursday), a potential winter storm is still on track to impact the state late Monday night mainly after midnight, and continue into Wednesday. Heavy snow will be possible across much of Iowa, with strong gusty winds picking up Tuesday into Wednesday. Travel may become hazardous due to the possibility and combination of heavy snow, gusty winds and blowing snow.

Man wanted for Jan. 11th incident in Glenwood arrested today (1/28) after foot pursuit

A man from Pottawattamie County who was wanted on numerous charges stemming from an incident Jan. 11th, was arrested this (Thursday) morning, in Council Bluffs. Bluffs Police say 28-year old Rodney Kephart, of Council Bluffs, was arrested at around 8:30-a.m. after he fell on the ice during a brief foot pursuit. Kephart was booked into Pott. County Corrections for a Probation Violation warrant out of Council Bluffs on original charges of Assault on a Police Officer, Carrying Weapons and Possession of Burglary tools. He will also face any warrants issued in Mills County in connection with the incident that took place Jan. 11th.

Rodney KephartOn that date, Glenwood Police attempted to stop a fleeing vehicle with Rodney Kephart as the passenger. The vehicle crashed into a semi at the intersection of Highway 34 and Hilman Road, in Glenwood. Officers tried to subdue Kephart with a taser, which was ineffective. Kephart was able to flee into a wooded area. He evaded  arrest and was last seen by a witness walking towards Pacific Junction.

This (Thursday) morning, Council Bluffs Police received a tip that Kephart may be staying at a residence in the 800 block of Avenue D in Council Bluffs. As Officers approached the residence, Kephart ran out the back of the residence northbound. Officers engaged in a short foot pursuit with Kephart. After about a block, Kephart slipped and fell on the ice. He gave up at that time and was taken into custody without further incident or injury.

2 accidents in Mills County this week

The Mills County Sheriff’s Office says two people were injured during an accident Monday afternoon. Officials say Andrea Lara, of Lenox, was driving a 2001 Ford east on Highway 34 near 365th Street at around 3:10-p.m., when she attempted to pass another vehicle and lost control of her car. The vehicle went into a spin and overturned, coming to rest in the north ditch. Lara, and her passenger, Marina Dela, also of Lenox, were transported to Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, by Glenwood Rescue.

And, on Jan. 26th, a 1999 Chevy truck driven by Russell Higgins, of Shenandoah, was traveling north on Highway 59, about one-half mile north of Lambert Avenue, when his vehicle hit a patch of ice on the road. The truck went into a road ditch on the east side of Highway 59 and came to rest. Smoke began to emit from under the hood, and the vehicle soon caught fire, damaging the engine compartment and cab of the vehicle. The accident happened a little after 8-a.m., Tuesday. No injuries were reported.

3 arrests in Mills County

The Mills County Sheriff’s Office today (Thursday), reports three arrests took place Tuesday. 20-year old Bailey Parsons was arrested on a Pottawattamie County warrant for Probation Violation. Bond was set at $2,000. 21-year old Dylan Lee Conn, of Glenwood, was arrested on a warrant for Drug Stamp Violation, Criminal Ties and Probation Violation. His bond was set at $5,000. And, 19-year old Kameron Riley Myers, of Glenwood, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant for Failure to Appear on a Driving Under Suspension charge. His bond was set at $400.

Cass Supervisors to discuss & act on indigent burial policy

The Cass County Board of Supervisors will hold their regular, weekly meeting Friday morning, in Atlantic. During the session, which begins at 8:30-a.m. in their Board Room at the Courthouse, the Supervisors will discuss an amendment to the policy for disposition/burial of human remains for indigent persons in Cass County. Afterward, the Board is expected to act on a Resolution adopting the policy, as amended.

The Supervisors will also act on approving contracts with public libraries that provide services to the County, and to allow/disallow Family Farm Credits and to approve Agricultural Land Credits, in accordance with Iowa Code.

In other business, the Board will be introduced to Midwest Data of Iowa, a locally owned regional IT (Information Technology) service/products company.
