Authorities say the incident which led to his arrest began at around 7:48-p.m.,after Officers were sent to the Best Buy store at 3115 Manawa Center Drive, where a man was allegedly being aggressive with the store manager and at some point, had pulled a knife.

An officer arrived in the area shortly after the call was dispatched and located the suspect in a silver-colored BMW with no plates. The man, later identified as Maron, allegedly rammed the police cruiser in an attempt to flee the area. He then rammed the police cruiser a second time and drove the car across a grass median. The car then went westbound on 30th Ave.

Two additional officers arrived in the area and were able to get in behind the vehicle in an attempt to stop it. The vehicle failed to stop and fled westbound on I-80 entering into Omaha. Officers continued to pursue the vehicle into Omaha on I-80. The vehicle exited onto 42nd street continuing southbound to L Street where it turned westbound. The Nebraska State Patrol assisted and successfully deployed stop sticks at 90th and L Street. The vehicle was then disabled and came to a stop in the area of 108th and L.

$2 million Powerball winner in Iowa comes forward

CLIVE, Iowa (AP) — Iowa Lottery officials say an Onawa man has claimed his $2 million Powerball prize. 23-year old Bryon Stewart validated his ticket at lottery headquarters in Clive Thursday afternoon.PR011416_ByronStewart The ticket was sold at a Casey’s convenience store in the western Iowa city of Onawa. It matched the first five numbers but missed the Powerball to win a $1 million prize in Wednesday’s drawing. Stewart also added the Power Play to the purchase, which multiplied the prize to $2 million.

Stewart, who works as a security officer at the WinnaVegas Casino & Resort in Onawa, said he bought his winning ticket Wednesday night, just a few hours before the Powerball drawing. He had a total of three tickets for the drawing. He and his girlfriend, Taylor Kuhlman, looked up the winning numbers together shortly after the drawing. Stewart claimed the prize, but said the couple would be sharing the winnings. The couple said they plan to pay off some loans, and perhaps look for a house someday soon. Stewart said he will continue to work, and Kuhlman said she will as well.

The buyers of tickets sold in California, Florida and Tennessee will share the estimated $1.6 billion jackpot or the $983.5 million cash option. Lottery officials say people bought more than $12 million in Powerball tickets in Iowa for Wednesday’s drawing. The odds of winning the jackpot are about 1 in 292.2 million.

5 sent to the hospital after crash in Council Bluffs Thu. afternoon

News

January 14th, 2016 by Ric Hanson

Police in Council Bluffs say a medical condition apparently caused a crash that sent a total of five people to the hospital Thursday afternoon. Witnesses told police a green, Ford F-350 pickup was traveling west on Interstate 80 near the Mall of the Bluffs, when the vehicle swerved across the median and into oncoming traffic. The truck, driven by Rodney Schueman, of Oakland, struck a Hyundai Sante Fe Sport, driven by Kyel Moo, of Omaha, Nebraska. The accident happened just before 2-p.m.

Authorities suspect Schueman had a medical issue, because the investigation revealed he was slumped over the wheel when his truck drove across the median into oncoming traffic. The pickup sideswiped the SUV. The driver of the SUV and three of his passengers, all of whom are from Omaha, suffered minor injuries and were transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital. Schueman was also transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital, where he was being treated for the initial medical issues and minor injuries sustained from this accident.
