Chiefs take Miss St DT Chris Jones in second round of draft

Sports

April 30th, 2016 by Ric Hanson

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs chose versatile defensive tackle Chris Jones from Mississippi State with the sixth pick in the second round of the NFL draft on Friday night. The Chiefs had traded their first-round choice to San Francisco on Thursday night for a package that included the No. 37 overall pick, plus selections in the fourth and sixth rounds.

The 6-foot-6, 308-pound Jones provides depth along the defensive line after the retirement of veteran Mike DeVito this offseason. He also gives the Chiefs some bargaining leverage with defensive tackle Dontari Poe, whose contract expires after next season.

Chiefs general manager John Dorsey had expressed his admiration of UCLA linebacker Myles Jack on Thursday night, but Jacksonville moved up to take him one pick ahead of Kansas City.
