Police in Council Bluffs arrested a woman early this (Tuesday) morning, after finding her passed out in a stolen vehicle. Authorities say 31-year old Amber Coulter, of Council Bluffs, faces a charge of Theft in the 2nd degree, and was being held in the Pottawattamie County Jail.

Her arrest occurred after officers were called to 901 N. 35th Street in Council Bluffs, at around 2:15-a.m., for a female passed out in a vehicle. Police who found Coulter in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, noticed that the ignition was damaged and that the license plates displayed did not belong to the vehicle.

After the officers woke Coulter up, she denied stealing the vehicle, and claimed instead that she had borrowed it from a friend.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office says they were notified late Monday afternoon, that Cedar Rapids Police recovered a fire truck stolen from the Lorimor Fire Department late last week. The vehicle was unoccupied when it was recovered. No further details were provided.

The 2004 Ford F-350 Super Duty Fire Truck was a grass/field fire unit. The theft was reported Friday afternoon. The truck and its equipment was valued at $15,000.

Police in Red Oak arrested a man Monday evening on a charge of Simple Assault. 45-year old Ricky Allen Baker, of Red Oak, was taken into custody at around 5:35-p.m. in the 200 block of N. 2nd Street. Baker was brought to the Montgomery County Jail and held on a $300 cash bond.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office has released information on a couple of recent arrests. On Monday, 56-year old James Walbert Tucker, of Afton, was arrested following a traffic stop at Highway 34 and Sycamore Avenue, for Driving While Barred. Tucker was being held in the Adams County Jail on $2,000 bond.

And, at around 8:35-p.m, on March 2nd, a traffic stop in Adams County and subsequent search of the vehicle by the K9 Unit, resulted in the arrest of 64-year old Leroy Eugene Mallow, of Chowchilla, CA, on Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, charges. His bond was set at $1,300.

Police found a man shot dead inside an apartment Monday night at 116 Glen Ave. in Council Bluffs. Police told the Omaha World-Herald, another man from the same shooting arrived at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs about 6:30 p.m. Monday. Bluffs Police Sgt. Dave Dawson said the second victim was expected to survive. Neither victim had been identified or their relatives contacted as of late Monday night. Officials said no arrests have been made.

Urbandale police say an infant has died after being found unresponsive at an in-home daycare. The Urbandale Police Department say officers and fire crews were dispatched to an in-home daycare on a report of an unresponsive infant. The child died at a local hospital. Police did not provide details on how the infant died.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Attorneys for an anti-abortion group who successfully challenged part of an Iowa campaign finance disclosure law will be reimbursed nearly $300,000 by taxpayers. The State Appeals Board agreed to the payout of legal fees to Iowa Right to Life, which had been ordered last month by a federal judge. The Bopp Law Firm of Terre Haute, Indiana will receive $271,000 while Des Moines-based BrownWinick will get $28,000.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — A lawsuit filed Monday accuses Iowa athletic director Gary Barta of unfairly removing female coaches and the top women’s sports administrator during a tenure marked by gender bias. The lawsuit by fired women’s field hockey coach Tracey Griesbaum asks a judge to order her reinstatement and to require the university to take steps to ensure female coaches are treated the same as their male counterparts. It alleges that six female coaches and the department’s most powerful female administrator, Jane Meyer, have been forced out under Barta.

DECORAH, Iowa (AP) — Prosecutors in a former Boone man’s murder trial called a rebuttal witness Monday as the trial entered its third week. A doctor who performed an autopsy on Emily Fazzino’s body after she was found dead in her home testified Monday for a second time in Winneshiek County court. Alexander Fazzino is charged with first-degree murder in the January 2012 death.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a man was shot by a police officer during a six-hour standoff at a residence in Sioux City. Sioux City Police Department Lt. Pat McCann said Monday that police responded to a call 2:20 p.m. Saturday. Police say a 43-year-old man fired a gun inside his home, where his ex-wife was present.

McCann said officers tried to talk the man out of the home before a SWAT team arrived. Police say the man was ordered to drop the gun, but he advanced on SWAT officers and was shot by a Sioux City police officer. The woman was not injured. Authorities say the man was taken to a hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening. The police officer who shot the suspect hasn’t been identified.

Police say charges are pending against the suspect.
