Council Bluffs man apprehended in foot pursuit following theft

The Council Bluffs Police Department apprehended a Council Bluffs man on multiple charges after he was spotted stealing items from a vehicle on Wednesday morning. At approximately 9:42 am, employees of Aarons Rentals, 1920 W. Broadway in Council Bluffs, observed a man break into an employee’s vehicle and steal items. Two employees of the store followed the suspect as he fled the area northbound on foot. Employees were able to direct arriving officers to the area of 22nd and Ave “D”, where they had last observed the suspect. A perimeter was set up and a search began by multiple officers.

A short time later, officers were notified that a male subject, matching the suspect’s description was observed running southbound though yards in the 2500 block of Ave “C” and “D”. Officers then encountered the suspect near the area of 25th and Ave “B” where he was apprehended in the backyard of a residence. The man was identified as 21-year-old Jose Juan Martinez-Andade of Council Bluffs.  During the arrest Martinez-Andade dropped a backpack while fleeing from police. The backpack was recovered near the scene and found to contain items from the burglary along with 8.6 grams of methamphetamine and packaging materials.

Martinez-Andade was charged with Possession with Intent to deliver (Methamphetamine), 3rd Degree Burglary, Possession of Burglary Tools, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Eluding, 2nd Degree Theft, and Probation Violation.

Police in Council Bluffs today (Wednesday), released the identity of a woman who was struck by a pickup Tuesday night while crossing a street. Officials say 42-year old Sharon Richards, of Council Bluffs was taken to Creighton University Hospital in Omaha and later died Wednesday from her injuries from the accident that happened at around 10-p.m., Tuesday.

An investigation determined Richards crossed the roadway against the pedestrian crosswalk signal located at the intersection of 35th and W. Broadways Streets, when she was struck by a 2013 Ford F-350. The driver of the pickup, 22-year old Steven Hart, of Omaha, will not face any criminal charges in connection with the accident.

ELDON E. LYON, 85, of Council Bluffs died Wednesday, June 29th at Hospice with Heart Hospice House in Glenwood.  Funeral service for ELDON E. LYON will be held on Saturday, July 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at New Horizon Presbyterian Church.  A lunch will immediately follow in the parish hall.  Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring, Bayliss Park Chapel has the arrangements.

Visitation with the family will be held on Friday from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm at Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring, Bayliss Park Chapel.

Interment will be Saturday at 2:00 pm in Graceland Cemetery in Avoca.

Memorials are suggested to New Horizon Presbyterian Church.

Motorcycle vs. sprayer accident near Griswold

Rescue crews were called to the scene of a motorcycle accident early this afternoon, east of Griswold. According to dispatch reports, a cycle ran into the back of a crop spraying machine around 12:48-p.m. near 61282 Tucson Road. The driver of the cycle was said to be unconscious but breathing. Griswold Rescue and Medivac were dispatched to the scene. No other details are currently available.

Board of Supervisor’s meetings set for Atlantic & Greenfield

The Cass and Adair County Boards of Supervisors will hold their regular, separate weekly meetings Thursday morning. In Atlantic, the Cass County Board will meet at 8:30-a.m.  On their agenda, is action on: Approving fireworks display permits; FY 2016 expense appropriations and any necessary amendments; A Resolution approving the Cass County Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP); A County multi-jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP); Certification of base salaries for deputies to the County Auditor, and, determining the compensation of “Other employees.”

In Greenfield, the Adair County Board of Supervisor’s meeting gets underway at 9-a.m., Thursday. Action items on their agenda include: Setting the Sheriff’s Reserves hourly wage; FY 2017 appropriation and transfer Resolutions; Manure Management Plan (MMP) updates, and Tax Credits.

VA Director Rich Schaecher will discuss the resignation of a Veteran Affairs Commissioner and the appointment of a V-A Commissioner. Custodian Rich Wallace will discuss a resignation in his department and new hire matters. And, Adair County Engineer Nick Kauffman will discuss the purchase of a Rail Road Right-of-Way, along with other matters.

Exira man arrested early Wed. morning on weapon & other charges

A traffic stop in Exira early this (Wednesday) morning resulted in a man being arrested for Carrying weapons, Driving While Revoked, and No Registration. The Audubon County Sheriff’s Office says 41-year old Dale Joseph Langenfeld, of Exira, was taken into custody at around 2:30-a.m. He was brought to the Audubon County Jail and later released after appearing before the Magistrate.

Stanton man arrested Wednesday morning

Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Stanton man this (Wednesday) morning, for allegedly violating a No Contact Order. 41-year old Justin Wade Woods was taken into custody at around 8:10-a.m., and was being held in the Montgomery County Jail in $300 bond.

Retirement party for Atlantic P & R Director Roger Herring

The City of Atlantic’s Parks and Recreation Department and Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce, invites you to attend a retirement party for retiring Parks and Rec Director Roger Herring. The event takes place from 10-until 11:30-a.m. today at the Sunnyside Park Activities Center. Refreshments and treats will be provided.

Herring served as the City’s Parks and Rec Director for the past four years. He announced his retirement plans in Nov., 2014. Seth Staashelm, who served as Assistant Director for the Parks and Rec Department since Jan. 2015, was selected to succeed Herring as Parks Director.
