Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says quarterback Cade McNamara is done for the season with a torn ACL. The injury occurred during the second series of Iowa’s 26-16 win over Michigan State.

Ferentz says McNamara plans on returning next season.

Ferentz says McNamara will have surgery in the next couple of weeks but will remain with the team.

With McNamara out sophomore Deacon Hill becomes the starter. He led the Hawkeyes to the victory over the Spartans.

Hill’s mobility helped the Hawkeye use some different looks on offense.

The Hawkeyes are 4-1 and host Purdue on Saturday.

Iowa State coach Matt Campbell used the terms resilient and courageous to describe his team. The Cyclones are 2-3 after a 50-20 loss at Oklahoma and will be at home this week to play TCU.

Campbell feels the Cyclones still have a lot of potential.

Iowa State’s run game perked up at Oklahoma with 150 yards. Campbell wants to see that progress continue.

The Cyclone defense has given up too many big plays and Campbell says a better pass rush is part of the solution.

Campbell says they need to generate pressure without blitzing too much.

Hawkeye Women’s Hoops Announce Television Designations

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa, in conjunction with the Big Ten Conference, announced start times and television information for select women’s basketball games for the 2023-24 season.

In all, the nationally-ranked Hawkeyes have been selected to appear on television network or Peacock 23 times during the regular season, including 18 conference games.

It’s the most coverage via nationally distributed platforms in Big Ten women’s basketball history. Six Big Ten regular-season games will be on a nationally broadcast platform (either NBC or FOX), the most in conference history. The Hawkeyes will be featured in four of the six contests – Indiana (Jan. 13/FOX), at Ohio State (Jan. 21/NBC), at Maryland (Feb. 3/FOX), Ohio State (March 3/FOX).

All remaining home nonconference contests will be streamed on B1G+ (subscription). Game times for those games, along with road and neutral site dates against Virginia Tech (Nov. 9), at Northern Iowa (Nov. 13), and at Iowa State (Dec. 6), will be announced in the coming weeks.

2023-24 SCHEDULE NOTES

– For the second straight season, Iowa will open its Big Ten slate with identical opponents and locations in December. The Hawkeyes will travel to Wisconsin on Dec. 10 and host Minnesota on Dec. 30.

– The Hawkeyes will play back-to-back conference road games twice during the regular season.

– The start and end of Iowa’s conference slate is balanced with three away/home contests.

– The Hawkeyes will play five weekend home games against Big Ten competition (three Saturday, two Sunday). Saturday games inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena come against Minnesota (Dec. 30), Indiana (Jan. 13) and Nebraska (Jan. 27). Iowa is scheduled to be home the final two Sundays of the regular season (Feb. 25 & March 3).

– The Hawkeyes will play on Super Bowl Sunday for the second straight season and eighth time in nine years. Iowa will play at Nebraska on Sunday, Feb. 11.

– The Big Ten Tournament will return to the Target Center in Minneapolis, March 6-10, 2024.

Iowa is coming off a historic season in which it won a school-record 31 games, finished NCAA national runners-up and was second in the country in attendance. Senior guard Caitlin Clark, who was the consensus National Player of the Year, Collegiate Woman of the Year and AAU Sullivan Award winner, averaged 27.8 points, 8.6 assists and 7.1 rebounds per game. Seniors Gabbie Marshall and Kate Martin, and sophomore Hannah Stuelke also return for Lisa Bluder’s 24th season as Iowa’s head coach.

Tickets for Iowa’s Crossover at Kinnick are still available in general admission seating. All purchases are nonrefundable, tickets for adults are $10 and $5 for youth (18 & younger). Season tickets for the 2023-24 campaign are sold out for the first time in program history.

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa women’s soccer team captains Samantha Cary and Macy Enneking were named conference players of the week on Tuesday.

Cary was recognized as Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season, while Enneking earned her first Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week honors of her career.

The two defensive standouts led Iowa to a pair of clean sheets last week in dominating wins over Purdue, 4-0, and Rutgers, 1-0.

A fifth-year player and second-year captain, Cary anchors the Iowa defense with a team-high 1,039 minutes played this season.

Cary played 175 of 180 total minutes last week, including the full 90 minutes in the shutout against Rutgers. She also notched an assist against the Scarlet Knights, helping fellow captain Maggie Johnston to a goal in the 22^nd minute that put Iowa ahead by two scores.

Cary previously earned back-to-back Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week awards this season on Sept. 5 and Sept. 12.

Enneking is now up to eight credited shutouts, which ties for first nationally. Enneking’s 0.253 goals against average ranks third in the country while her .913 save percentage ranks fourth. She leads Big Ten goalkeepers in each of those statistical areas.

Enneking hauled in three saves to preserve the shutout against Rutgers. The Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week honors are a first for Enneking, who was named Honorable Mention Goalkeeper of the Week by Top Drawer Soccer on Sept. 5 this season.

This is Enneking’s first conference player of the week honor since being named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on March 22, 2021.

Enneking’s 18 career shutouts rank third in program history. She is fifth in the Hawkeye record book with 21 career victories (.706 win percentage).

The Hawkeyes have recorded nine shutouts this season, the most for an Iowa team since the 2019 season. Iowa has allowed just three goals all year, ranking second nationally in goals against average (0.25). Iowa’s .750 shutout percentage ties for fourth nationally through 12 games.

Iowa travels to Nebraska on Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT). The Hawkeyes return to the Iowa Soccer Complex on Oct. 12 for a showdown with Northwestern at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on Big Ten Network.
