News, Weather

July 17th, 2016 by Ric Hanson

A storm packing strong, straight-line winds has damaged property in rural, southern Union County. Emergency Management officials report tree limbs were down and an auger blown over on the Adams/Union County line. The damage occurred just before 8-a.m. about two-miles north/northwest of Kent.

Storms rolling through northern Iowa earlier this (Sunday) morning damaged or destroyed four machine sheds east of Thor, in Humboldt County. In Hardin County, trees 24-to- 36-inches in diameter were completely gone in Aldin, and a 40-foot tree fell. An additional tree fell on a house.

A shed and Morton building were destroyed near Gilbertville, in Black Hawk County. Downed trees were blocking Highway 17 in Wright County, and a large tree was blocking Highway 169 southwest of Livermore, in Humboldt County.

Elsewhere in northern Iowa, heavy rain fell near Clear Lake, and 6-to 8-inches of water covered the road near Estherville and Emmetsburg. Winds of up to 88-miles per hour downed trees and power lines in the Hardin County community of Steamboat Rock and Ackley. A car was submerged in flood waters when flash floods inundated parts of Mason City. Damage was also reported in Eagle Grove, Renwick, Burt, Lone Rock, and Jewell, all in northern Iowa.
