Chiefs’ Jamaal Charles doubtful for Week 2 at Houston

Sports

September 17th, 2016 by Ric Hanson

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles is doubtful for Sunday’s game at Houston as he continues to work his way back from surgery last season to repair the torn ACL in his right knee. The Chiefs also will be without their two starting offensive guards against the Texans. Laurent Duvernay-Tardif is out with an ankle sprain and rookie Parker Ehinger is out with a concussion.

Charles has been practicing for weeks, but the success of fill-in running back Spencer Ware has given the Chiefs the ability to be patient with him. Ware ran for 70 yards and caught seven passes for 129 yards in last weekend’s overtime victory over San Diego. Charles has not played in a game since Week 5 last season.

You can hear the game live on KJAN at around Noon tomorrow, following our Sunday morning church services.

Giants beat Cards 8-2, extend wild-card gap over St. Louis

Sports

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — All that talk about Buster Posey’s second-half power drought was answered with one mighty swing in a September game that mattered, and his two-run homer helped the San Francisco Giants beat the St. Louis Cardinals 8-2 Friday night in a matchup of playoff contenders.

Posey drove in four runs and the Giants stayed four games back of the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers, who won at Arizona. San Francisco maintained its one-game lead over the New York Mets for the league’s top wild card, moving three games up on the Cardinals in the wild-card standings.

Left-hander Matt Moore (4-4) allowed two runs over five innings, struck out four and walked three while facing the Cardinals for the first time in his career. He won for the fourth time over five starts in his ninth outing since joining San Francisco in a trade with Tampa Bay.
