Update – Griswold man dies in Cass County crash

The Iowa State Patrol has released additional information on a fatal motorcycle accident that took place early this (Wednesday) afternoon. Officials report 56-year old Michael Douglas Noll, of Griswold, died from injuries he suffered when his 2010 Harley Davidson struck the left front wheel of a 2011 John Deere crop sprayer, as Noll was passing the machine, which was turning left into a residential driveway.

The accident happened at around 12:50-p.m.on Highway 92, near 612th Street. Noll was traveling eastbound when the collision occurred. He died at the scene. The driver of the sprayer, 17-year old Marty Pelzer, of Griswold, was not hurt.

Iowa DCI, FBI Investigating Robbery, Shooting at Fort Madison Bank

Officials with the Iowa Department of Public Safety are investigating a bank robbery and officer-involved shooting in eastern Iowa. Authorities say at approximately 10:11-a.m. today (Wednesday), the Lee County Communication Center received a 911 call in reference to a bank robbery at the Fort Madison Bank and Trust Co. located at 1206 48th Street in Fort Madison.

The Fort Madison Police Department and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the bank at approximately 10:12 AM and discovered a male subject running from the bank in a southerly direction with an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency.  As they approached the suspect, he fired multiple rounds in the direction of the officers, striking a patrol squad.  Officers returned fire and one round struck the suspect in the torso.  He was transported to the Fort Madison Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  The responding officers were not injured.

The name of the suspect will not be released at this time, pending an autopsy.  The two Fort Madison police officers who returned fire have been placed on administrative leave, per the policy of the Fort Madison Police Department.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) were called to investigate the incident.  Also assisting with the investigation is the Iowa Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Iowa State Patrol (ISP), Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Department of Natural Resource and the Lee County Attorney’s Office.

Police ID man shot and killed by Iowa police

BOONE, Iowa (AP) — Police have identified the Boone man shot and killed by officers earlier this week, as well as the officers involved in the shooting. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation reports that 28–year-old Michael Disbrowe died at a hospital after being shot Monday by Police Sgt. Nathan Kester and Officer Joseph Slight. Kester is a 14-year veteran of the force; Slight has served for a year.

The officers have been placed on paid administrative leave until completion of the investigation, per department policy. Investigators say officers were dispatched around 10:15 p.m. Monday after a 911 caller reported an armed man was threatening people. Officers say they found Disbrowe, who pulled a gun from his waistband. The officers say they fired after Disbrowe aimed the gun at them and began to advance.

 

Anita woman arrested on drug-related warrants

Sheriff’s Deputies in Cass County, Tuesday, arrested 45-year old Brenda Sue Osborn, of Anita. Osborn was taken into custody on two Sheriff’s Office warrants for felony, Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine. She was being held in the Cass County Jail on $20,000 bond.

(Update) Motorcycle fatality in Cass County Wed. afternoon

Cass County Sheriff Darby McLaren has confirmed one person died following a motorcycle-vs-farm sprayer accident early this (Wednesday) afternoon, about half-way between Griswold and Lyman near 612th Street and Highway 92. The crash was reported a little after 12:45-p.m.  Dispatch reports indicated the motorcycle ran into the rear of a crop spraying machine. The driver of the cycle, whose name was not released, later died from their injuries. Additional information will be released by the Iowa State Patrol.

Probation violation arrest in Red Oak

Red Oak Police announce the arrest Wednesday of 34-year-old Bobbie Jo Bruce of Red Oak for Violation of Probation.  She was arrested at 12:10pm and later released on $2,500 bond.

Council Bluffs man apprehended in foot pursuit following theft

The Council Bluffs Police Department apprehended a Council Bluffs man on multiple charges after he was spotted stealing items from a vehicle on Wednesday morning. At approximately 9:42 am, employees of Aarons Rentals, 1920 W. Broadway in Council Bluffs, observed a man break into an employee’s vehicle and steal items. Two employees of the store followed the suspect as he fled the area northbound on foot. Employees were able to direct arriving officers to the area of 22nd and Ave “D”, where they had last observed the suspect. A perimeter was set up and a search began by multiple officers.

A short time later, officers were notified that a male subject, matching the suspect’s description was observed running southbound though yards in the 2500 block of Ave “C” and “D”. Officers then encountered the suspect near the area of 25th and Ave “B” where he was apprehended in the backyard of a residence. The man was identified as 21-year-old Jose Juan Martinez-Andade of Council Bluffs.  During the arrest Martinez-Andade dropped a backpack while fleeing from police. The backpack was recovered near the scene and found to contain items from the burglary along with 8.6 grams of methamphetamine and packaging materials.

Martinez-Andade was charged with Possession with Intent to deliver (Methamphetamine), 3rd Degree Burglary, Possession of Burglary Tools, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Eluding, 2nd Degree Theft, and Probation Violation.
