Officials in Ames have been busy through the night after nearly five inches of rain inundated streets and homes. Bob Kindred is the assistant city manager of Ames. He says they had 3-to 5-inches of rain which didn’t cause river flooding, but streets were flooded. A number of homes had water in their basements and cars were stalled out on the streets.
Kindred said the situation on the Iowa State University campus was not as bad, because of the lay of the land. A flash flood warning expired at 3:30 this morning but Kindred said there are still reports of flooded streets in Ames. He said water was still 2-to 3-feet deep on some City streets as of 4-a.m., and a number of cars were damaged, abandoned in-place.
Ames police, fire and city staff plus Story County Emergency Management spent much of the night assisting residents impacted by the high water.

Officials in the Postville School District are forfeiting tonight’s (Friday’s) football game, due to health concerns. Postville superintendent Tim Dugger. “We’ve had several cases of confirmed impetigo this week,” Dugger says. “In order to protect our students and protect the students of the North Linn School District, we have offered to cancel the game.”
Impetigo is a highly-contagious skin condition. It usually occurs in children under the age of five and is rarely found in adults. The superintendent says there is NO health threat to the general student population in his district. “The issue is with a few of the football players and the close quarters when it comes to athletics,” Dugger says, “so it is particularly confined to that group of students.”
Dugger says students who’ve contracted impetigo are undergoing the standard treatment. “They are on antibiotics and then we are requiring potential cases to be reviewed by a doctor,” Dugger says, “to be cleared by them.”
Health officials say the recovery time for impetigo is usually three days, so Dugger is confident all cases will be cleared by next week. According to the Mayo Clinic’s website, someone with impetigo is no longer contagious about 24 hours after they start taking antibiotics. The rash from impetigo typically heals without scarring. Postville’s homecoming game is NEXT Friday.

RONALD G. HALLETT, 80, of Audubon, died Wed., Sept. 21st, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, in Omaha. A Celebration of Life service for RONALD HALLETT will be held 10:30-a.m. Tue., Sept. 27th, at St. Patrick’s Parish Center, in Audubon. Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon has the arrangements.
Friends may call at the funeral home, where the family visitation is from 6-until 8-p.m. Monday (9/26).
Burial will be at a later date.

PATTY STOCKHOLM, 96, of Anita, died Wed., Sept. 21st, at Caring Acres Nursing & Rehab in Anita. Funeral services for PATTY STOCKHOLM will be held 11-a.m. Monday, Sept. 26th, at the Hockenberry Funeral Home in Atlantic. Iles Funeral Home in Des Moines is assisting with the arrangements.
Friends may call at the Hockenberry funeral home on Sunday, Sept. 25th, from 2-until 4-p.m.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at Anita.

Sheriff’s deputies in Montgomery County arrested two people from rural Stanton on assault charges late Thursday night. 50-year old Tony Wayne Ruple and 45-year old Tina Marie Seiler were taken into custody at around 10:35-p.m. in the 2800 block of 200th Street. Ruple and Seiler were charged with Domestic Abuse/Simple Assault, and brought to the Montgomery County Jail where they were being held without bond.
