IRVING, Texas (AP) — BYU quarterback Taysom Hill and Western Michigan quarterback Zach Terrell are among 12 finalists for the William V. Campbell Trophy, which honors the top scholar-athlete in college football.

The other finalists announced Tuesday by the National Football Foundation for the academic Heisman are:

— Karter Schult, defensive lineman, Northern Iowa

— Chris Beaschler, linebacker, Dayton

— Tim Crawley, wide receiver, San Jose State

— DeVon Edwards, safety, Duke

— Brooks Ellis, linebacker, Arkansas

— Carter Hanson, linebacker, Saint John’s (Minn.)

— Ryan Janvion, safety, Wake Forest

— Zay Jones, wide receiver, East Carolina

— Cooper Rush, quarterback, Central Michigan

— Tyler Sullivan, quarterback, Delta State

Each finalist receives an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship. The winner will be announced Dec. 6 at the National Football Foundation’s Hall of Fame banquet in New York. The winner will receive an additional $7,000 in scholarship money and the Campbell Trophy.

Hill missed most of the last two seasons for BYU with serious injuries. He is pursuing an MBA and is the only player in school history with 4,000 yards passing and 2,000 receiving in a career. Terrell is also pursuing an MBA while leading No. 17 Western Michigan to its first ranking in the AP Top 25 in school history.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa’s offense has typically revolved around the idea that a strong line and interchangeable running backs will open up the passing game. The Hawkeyes didn’t expect its receivers to be so ineffective that their entire offensive identity would be compromised.

Iowa (5-3, 3-2 Big Ten) heads into November with a serious deficiency at wide receiver. Only one of them, senior Riley McCarron, is among active Hawkeyes in the top four on the team in catches — and Iowa is just 107th nationally in passing offense (180.3 yards per game). That statistic is even more glaring given that the Hawkeyes have a senior quarterback, C.J. Beathard, who many pegged as among the Big Ten’s best entering this season.

Iowa, which is coming off its bye week, plays at No. 20 Penn State (6-2, 4-1) on Saturday. The Hawkeyes might take on a different look this weekend, as back Akrum Wadley said Tuesday that he occasionally worked as a slot receiver in practice during the bye.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles is going back on injured reserve after developing swelling in his surgically repaired right knee, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity Tuesday because the Chiefs had not announced the move.

The designation means the four-time Pro Bowl running back will miss at least eight weeks, so he could return for the end of the regular season and the playoffs. Charles only had 12 carries for 40 yards in three games this season.

The Chiefs, already thin at running back after Spencer Ware sustained a concussion Sunday, signed former Titans second-round pick Bishop Sankey on Tuesday. They cut linebackers Sam Barrington and Sio Moore.

The Audubon Wheelers Volleyball team left it all out on the floor in Perry on Tuesday night and it paid off with a huge comeback win over Grand View Christian 3 sets to 2.  The Wheelers used a strong team effort to rally from a two sets to none hole to start the night and earn their way to the State Tournament.

Grand View Christian started the night strong with a ten point rally to end the first set with a 25-17 win.  The Thunder then went on to win the second set 25-22 and take what seemed like an overwhelmingly lead in the match.  But the Wheelers stayed focused and took set three 25-21 and then carried that momentum into set four. The Wheelers started off on a 9-3 run to begin the fourth set and had a late 5 point run to set them up for a 25-22 set win. The match then turned to the fifth and deciding set to 15 points. The two teams traded early small runs and it was back and forth with a tie set until the Wheeler ripped off a four point rally to take a 12-8 advantage. They wouldn’t let the Thunder get closer than 3 points the rest of the way and sealed the win with a Kaitlin Schultes pop across to the corner that Grand View Christian saw glance off the back row and out of play.  After the match Schultes, a Senior, talked about the jubilation after that last point.

Schultes said it was just a matter of the Wheelers never giving up when things weren’t going their way early.

Fellow Senior Sidney Obermeier said the team’s confidence grew once they strung some points together as the match moved on.

The Wheelers fell in this same position against the Thunder last year and Obermeier was happy to experience the other end of the outcome this time.

Wheeler Head Coach Molly Lange credited Grand View Christian for serving aggressively early in the match and taking her team out of their system. She also thought the Wheelers weren’t passing well early in the match and said once they settled down and started to get the ball closer to the net their luck changed.

Lange talked about the feeling of making to state in a big year for her personally.

Audubon improved to 27-6 on the season and will now head to the State Tournament in Cedar Rapids with a first round match against 28-7 Springville on Wednesday, November 9th at 8:00pm.

All of the pairings and brackets for the 2016 State Volleyball Tournament have now been posted by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. Class 1A and 2A Regional Finals were played on Tuesday night.

In Class 1A Audubon (27-6) will open up against Springville (28-7) on Wednesday, November 9th at 8:00pm on Court Two.  Sidney (33-3) will take on Holy Trinity Catholic (35-3) at the same date and time on Court One.

In Class 2A St. Albert (26-4) will take on Central Lyon (30-4) on Wednesday, November 9th at 4:00pm on Court One.
