LAWRENCE, Kan. – University of Iowa sophomore Daianne Hayashida had her ITA Midwest Regionals run come to an end in the quarterfinals Sunday at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.

Hayashida lost in straight sets to Oklahoma’s Dana Guzman, 6-0, 6-1.

During the week in Lawrence, the Hawkeyes went 5-4 in singles competition and 3-2 in doubles competition, excluding the extra exhibition matches that were played.

“I am proud for the run that Dai had, making it to the quarters with an elite group of players. I’m happy for her, she learned a lot and I think it will take a lot of confidence from this. We’re going to get home and get back to practice as we have a lot to work to do before our final event in November.”

The Hawkeyes will have their final fall competition in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the Las Vegas International tournament starting Nov. 10.

BILOXI, MISS. – The University of Iowa men’s golf team concluded round one of the Fallen Oaks Collegiate Invitational on Sunday. The Hawkeyes are currently 11^th on the leaderboard.

Graduate student Josh Lundmark, competing individually, finished as the low scorer for the Hawkeyes at 2-under par (70). Lundmark’s day was highlighted by a hole in one on No. 14.

Lundmark finished the round with just one bogey and is tied for sixth place.

Lundmark’s par three average of 2.50 (-2) ties for the best in the field through 18 holes. Lundmark also leads the tournament in pars (15).

Junior Ian Meyer was the next low finisher for Iowa at one-under par. He is in 12^th place heading into Monday after shooting 71 (-1) in the first round.

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa women’s soccer downed Maryland, 5-0, on Sunday in the home finale at the Iowa Soccer Complex. The Hawkeyes improve to 9-3-3 overall and 3-3-2 in Big Ten Conference play.

Iowa dominated all phases of the contest, finishing with a 16-2 advantage in shots and a 10-1 lead in shots on goal. Half of those shots on goal connected as the Hawkeyes piled on a season-best five goals. The clean sheet is Iowa’s 10^th this season.

Junior Elle Otto gave Iowa the lead out of the gate, drilling a fourth-minute goal on assists from senior Kelli McGroarty and freshman Eva Pattison. Otto sliced a fastbreak ball behind the sliding Terrapin goalkeeper for her fifth score of the season.

Otto’s five goals and 12 points lead the Hawkeyes this season.

Iowa struck again in the 19^th minute, this time on a set piece that saw a pair of headers dump the ball to the bottom-left corner of the goal. Senior Maggie Johnston launched a long free kick into the box, which freshman Millie Greer lofted up to McGroarty; the Voorhees, New Jersey, native spiked the ball where it needed to be to give Iowa the, 2-0, advantage.

The Hawkeyes took a 3-0 lead into halftime thanks to a 36^th minute score tacked on by junior Addie Bundy off a corner kick. Bundy took the kick, hooking the ball through the net despite grazing the Maryland keeper.

Iowa converted again in the 54^th minute on a Josie Durr penalty kick. That score makes four goals and 10 points for the seventh-year veteran this season, her most in a single season as a Hawkeye.

Freshman Sofia Bush put the seasoning in the stew in the 81^st minute, firing a deep goal to a spot no one was getting to at the top of the net. The long ball was Bush’s second career goal.

Seven Hawkeyes recorded offensive points as Iowa picked up three crucial points in the Big Ten standings to keep its postseason aspirations alive.

“We talked about having a fresh approach mentally today and not bemoaning the last two games. I loved our mental approach. We asked them to be competitive and to do everything together.

I think the scout was really good. We wanted to move the ball. We wanted to shift them. I thought that when we did that they became a lot more isolated individually on defense. I would imagine today was probably the most passes we have been able to put together. We defended well as a group, and we pressed well. The first and second goal were results of turning them over in the back. We were sharp in the box.

I talked to them a little about how it is never as good and never as bad as you think it is. Live somewhere in the middle. I am really happy with their mental resolve. Just be in the day. You can’t be in tomorrow until you are done with today. Go win the day, and we did that today.”

• Iowa’s 10 shutouts through 15 games (.667) lead the Big Ten this season.
• Senior goalkeeper Macy Enneking ranks fifth in the Hawkeye record book with 22 career victories (.676 win percentage). Enneking’s 19 career shutouts rank third in program history.
• 90 Tracker: No Hawkeyes played the full 90 minutes on Sunday. Twenty-three Iowa players logged minutes against Maryland. The following position players have recorded at least one 90-minute outing this season: fifth-year Samantha Cary (11), freshman Millie Greer (11), freshman Eva Pattison (2), senior Rielee Fetty (4), senior Maggie Johnston (4), freshman Sofia Bush, junior Kenzie Roling and sophomore Kellen Fife.

Iowa begins the week in the driver’s seat in the Big 10 west. The Hawkeyes held Wisconsin out of the endzone to claim a 15-6 win in a slugfest in Madison. The Hawkeyes rushed for 200 yards but passed for only 37 and Tory Taylor averaged more than 50 yards per punt.

That’s Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz. The Hawks are without their starting quarterback and top three tight ends but held on to improve to 6-1 on the season.

Taylor amassed more than 500 yards of punting and aided Iowa’s defense by pinning the Badgers deep.

Tight end Erick All suffered a knee injury and Ferentz says should learn more on Monday.

The Hawkeyes host Minnesota this week.

Iowa State heads into its bye week with a record of 4-3. The Cyclones dominated in every phase in a 30-10 win at Cincinnati. The Cyclones are 3-1 in the Big-12.

That’s ISU coach Matt Campbell. The Cyclones are currently second in the Big-12 standings.

ISU was 1-2 after a loss at Ohio but has won three of its last four.

The Cyclones return to action on October 28th at Baylor.

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Iowa State (6-10-1, 3-6 Big 12) downed Kansas State (3-11-3, 1-7-1 Big 12) by a score of 2-1 on Sunday afternoon, as Salomé Prat notched her second brace in the past four matches.

The win vaults Iowa State into eleventh place in the Big 12 standings, just one point behind Cincinnati for tenth as they enter the final game of conference play.

Iowa State’s six wins are the most under head coach Matt Fannon in a single season and are the most by any ISU team since 2016, when the team earned 12 wins. The Cyclones’ three conference wins are also the most since 2016, when the team tallied three.

With both teams entering the match needing to secure points for a potential conference tournament berth, the match started with an early statement from the Wildcats, who scored in the seventh minute. K-State’s Jo Sees used a Riley Baker assist to give Kansas State a 1-0 lead.

The Wildcats kept up the pressure the majority of the half, outshooting the Cyclones 6-3 before Prat converted off a perfect Mira Emma feed in the 35th minute, which she would bury in the middle left of the net to tie the match at one apiece.

K-State tried to regain momentum heading into the break, but a Gillahan save and two off-target shots from the Wildcats kept the score knotted at the half.

In total, K-State outshot ISU 9-4 in the first stanza, but Gillahan’s four saves kept ISU in business.

Not even 15 minutes into the second half, Prat gave the Cyclones the advantage, recording her second score, notching her second brace of the season, off a free kick that was played to her by both Chloe Broughton and Lauren Hernandez.

Prat’s pair of scores pushes her into the team lead for points on the year with 15, just surpassing Emma, who has 14. Prat’s seven goals have her on the brink of cracking the top ten goal-scorers in program history. Prat now has two game-winning goals on the season, tying Emma for the team lead.

Iowa State’s defense would buckle down from there, not conceding anything as Gillahan finished the match with six saves. Iowa State went on to win its second straight match, sweeping the Sunflower State schools.

Prat led the team with four shots while Emma was the lone other Cyclone to have more than one on the afternoon. Broughton, Hernandez, Hanna Reid, Olivia Edwards, Abigail Miller and Gillahan all played the entire 90 today.
