THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DES MOINES HAS ISSUED A DENSE FOG ADVISORY EFFECTIVE FROM 2-A.M. UNTIL TIL 8-A.M. SUNDAY.

Wadley rushes for 170 yards and Iowa tops Purdue 49-35

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Iowa scored touchdowns on five of its six opening-half possessions and defeated Purdue 49-35 on Saturday, winning its school-record ninth consecutive road game. The Hawkeyes (5-2, 3-1 Big Ten) broke the former school record of eight consecutive road victories set from 1920-23. Of the nine consecutive road triumphs, eight have been against Big Ten opponents.

Iowa, 3-0 this season in Big Ten road games, completely dominated the first two quarters, running 41 plays for 397 yards, successfully converting 7 of 8 third-down opportunities.

Iowa hosts Wisconsin next Saturday.

San Diego stays on top in Pioneer with 38-7 win over Drake

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Anthony Lawrence threw for four touchdowns as San Diego remained undefeated in the Pioneer League, beating Drake 38-7 on Saturday. Lawrence had 259 yards on 19-of-29 passing for the Toreros (5-1, 4-0). Brian Riley and Ross Dwelley caught two touchdowns apiece and Jonah Hodges ran for 112 yards.

The Toreros led the Bulldogs (3-4, 2-2) throughout the game, beginning with Lawrence’s 17-yard touchdown pass to Riley in the first quarter. Tevin Heyward ran for a score midway through the second and Lawrence followed with an 8-yard touchdown throw to Dwelley to make it 21-0 with 2:36 to go before the break. Patrick Murray kicked a 44-yard field goal to put San Diego up 24-0 at halftime.

Drake’s Drew Lauer prevented the shut-out with a 9-yard scoring run with 7:38 left in the game. Starting Bulldogs QB Grant Kraemer — who was replaced in the fourth quarter — had 116 yards passing and one interception.

Friday’s High in Atlantic was 62. The temps rose overnight into early Saturday morning, giving us a recorded 24-hour High of 66. We also received a Trace of precipitation, Friday. Our 24-hour Low (ending at 7-a.m. today) was 48.  Last year on this date, our High in Atlantic was 70 and the low was 30. The Record High in Atlantic on this date was 89 in 1892. The Record Low was 17 in 1952.

Red Oak man arrested Sat. on assault w/weapon & other charges

A Montgomery County man arrested early this (Saturday) morning on assault and other charges.  Red Oak Police say 36-year old Christopher Michael Mattingly, of Red Oak, was taken into custody at around 12:15-a.m. in the 300 block of E. Coolbaugh Street. Mattingly faces charges that include Public Intoxication, Interference with Official Acts and Domestic Abuse Assault with a weapon.  He was being held without bond in the Montgomery County Jail.
